Don't let mechanics open and dismantle the carburetor if it is working properly. A carburetor cleaner spray will do. Have the fuel filter checked then the air filter cleaned using compressed air during oil change interval. Use a premium type of spark plugs such as platinum tip for longer life.

December 30th, 2009 09:23 PM #8let's see...
assuming everything else is in order, this is how i remember doing it, 20 years ago:
engine is warmed up. (idle-up circuit is temporarily cut off, or aircon is off.)
i adjust the idling screw to get at the proper idling rpm. it helps if the car has a tachometer. otherwise, i'd just "play it by ear" if i can't get a tach. (playing it by ear takes a lot of experience, practice, and luck.)
then, i screw in the richness screw until the engine is about to die. i then reverse my turn by about 1/8 or 1/4 turn.
ok na.
don't forget to reconnect the idle-up circuit.
hey, don't try to open the carburator if you don't know how. a small steel ball is likely to drop out and disappear the moment you open it.
also, i always write down the settings before i tinker with it. and i always note what i did. that way, i can always put the settings back the way i got them, in case i can't quite get it right.
but you know, if my car is running well, doing efficient fuel management, and there is no sign of malfunction, i might not think of tinkering with my carb at all.
planning to keep it for 15yrs just done 10,000 km already replaced the transfer case fluid w/...
