The chip shortage and how it affects cars. Deeper explanation.

The “chip shortage” explained — How it drastically slowed down LC300 production

It’s no doubt that over time we’ve been using more electronics. We almost treat those electronics as an essential rather than a luxury we can choose to live without. This means that more chips will be required to produce more electronics. A modern car already requires more than 3,000 chips to make all the creature comforts inside work, as compared in the past decade where a car only needed a hundred chips to operate.

However this isn’t the only reason why we’re lacking in chips, there is also the fact that the silicone used in producing those chips are the same silicone material used in making Covid-19 vials. And with no doubt, healthcare will and should get a priority over new tech.

But besides Covid-19 and innovation, this doesn’t mean the chip makers are lagging behind.

Since the US-China trade war, the United States have been running short on chips because China plays a big role on supplying chips globally. But that isn’t the main reason why the rest of the world is now on the shortage of chips as well.

It actually has something to do with Taiwan. The world literally relies on one chip maker to keep the supply going. This company is called “Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.” or TSM. They have been the most depended chip maker for the past decade with producing 92% of the chips used in the world today. TSM’s factory is in huge demand for water, but since the June of 2021, there had been a drought in Taiwan, causing TSM to not meet the global demands for the chips.

This means Toyota will be cutting 40% of their manufacturing in Japan and it could take years for the next customers to get their car.

So when will there be Land Cruiser inventories in the Philippines? If you’re thinking by the end of the year or somewhere 2022, then you may be disappointed by hearing that it may take up to 3 to 4 years for our local market to keep up with inventories. Because besides production shortage, the Philippines doesn’t get a big allocation from Toyota despite the high demand of Land Cruisers in Philippines.

So in conclusion, the reason why the LC300 won’t be purchasable at SRP price for the next few months (or years) is because the climate decided to take away the water from the world’s most depended factory, and there’s a extended distribution channel happening in the Philippines because of limited supply from the primary and secondary source.

    Nakakatuwa.

The suspension of the LC 300 has electronically selectable damping.

So i tried comfort, normal and sport.

How i tested: went over the same series of speed bumps and corners in my village.

    Findings:

COMFORT - 3 rebounds after each speed bump in decreasing intensity

Normal - 1 to 2 rebounds after each speed bump

Sport - 0 to 1 rebounds after each speed bump.

At least its noticeable, measurable and not a placebo!

In edsa i keep it in comfort.

But if i wanna drive hard i move it over to sport. I dont use normal.

How's the 2nd row and 3rd row seats? Were they considerably roomier or just the same as the 200?
