I understand the placement of the shock and spring has been altered at the rear for better geometry, but I 'm really not convinced.

This sounds like the same BS Toyota was saying about the Supra not being a BMW at their launch event which nearly every journalist repeated like parrots, then when independent reviews came out it was very obviously a BMW with numerous BMW badges everywhere in the engine bay.
Im not an engineer. But they did say in that public video it's built on the all new platform.

    200 kg lighter.

    Different welding process

Engine location lower and more to the centerline

    Aluminum roof

    25% stiffer chassis

They maintained the dimensions but its all new (i guess this is the contention)

If you watch till the end, and the rally driver starts talking...its a whole new level of feeling and handling.

LC300 on the left, LC200 on the right.

The 200 kg weight savings can come from something else. Aluminum roof, smaller gas tank, single piece tailgate, interior materials, smaller engine blocks. I believe it's a newer version of the LC200 frame, but I don't buy "all-new". IMO that's marketing speak.

IMO we'll find out once the car is out in earnest and the aftermarket starts developing parts. I believe there will be plenty of parts that will be interchangeable between the 200 and the 300.

Am actually impressed w the diesel powerband.

Compared to the 4.5 v8 this diesel will rev to 5k. And its got some oomph at the top end unlike the V8 which drops off after 2.5k....

I disagree 100%. After-sales is a huge money maker. I'm sure the support for the LC200 will continue. but to keep the quality higher, the LC300 will have everything new as they've stated. Suspension + steering + safety equipment + controllers + sensors + brake system + hvac system.

The only thing similar is the bolt pattern for the wheels.

TOYOTA LAND CRUISER | 3.5-liter Twin Turbo Engine | Toyota - YouTube

This is a video on the 3.5 liter twin turbo Petrol engine. Again very informative. Shows how it was designed. There are graphic comparisons with the older LC200 5.7 petrol v8.
