Basta ako simple lang.

Just wanted to answer the question about the fortuner as a status symbol.

It is for 98% of the population (we are talking about 107m out of the 110m population of the philippines). If you can afford a 2m+ anything, then yeah its a symbol of your capability and status in this society.

Am not talking about its qualities (of which it has many which i admire as well).

Different markets, different preferences. Hindi sa hindi papasa, hindi lang talaga bebenta.

The Hilux/Ranger/Strada are sold in Europe as pangharabas trucks. The Hilux was also reintroduced in Japan when the current gen came out after a decade hiatus. So kung design/emissions/safety, kayang kaya ipasa. But again, these cars are pangharabas use, vs the typical market preference of a more comfortable vehicle kahit hindi super rigid ng pangilalim kasi maganda naman daan sa kanila. If nakapunta ka na Europe and Japan you'll know naman market preference nila dun.

Mabenta ang PPV sa 3rd world atsaka sa Australia kasi gusto nila ng pangharabas, kahit sa personal car nila. Most people na bumibili ng Fortuner kaysa CUV sinasabi na gusto nila mataas para sa baha, matibay pangilalim para sa lubak. Those are obviously not first world problems so a PPV is not a first world solution.

US naman, medyo special case. They have a 25% tarrif on trucks not built in the US so kung ipapasok nila Hilux, lalabas mas mahal pa sa domestic pickups nila. So they have a domestic pickup in the form of the Tacoma. And again, market preference, pagdating sa SUV gusto nila pang highway cruising pang pamilya, komportable. Di na naman pasok sa value proposition ng PPV. So kung magpasok sila ng PPV dun, mahal na, hindi pa match sa buyer needs. Kung magpapasok din sila ng imported ladder-frame SUV na, edi 4Runner na yun (Japan made) kaysa Thai/Argentinian-made kasi talo na rin naman sa tarrifs. And again the 4Runner was designed with a softer ride for the typical US highway. And kung gagamitin mong example ang US, wala ring Prado dun.

TLDR: The main reason why PPVs are not sold in US/EU/JP is because of market preferences and not because these cars are substandard and will not meet their restrictions because their pickup counterparts show that they can.

But as I learned more about the topic I realized iba lang talaga market ng cars dun vs here.

The good thing is we have a breadth of options - if you want a comfy, soft riding CUV meron naman dito, if you want a rugged, high-riding PPV meron din. Kung may pera ka for a comfortable but rugged SUV sobrang daming LC200 dito.

gumagawa sila ng sasakyan depende kung ano yung pasok sa market kung saan sila mag bebenta... syempre consider pa din yung standards nung country na pagbebentahan..

like US and EU.. minsan magkaiba pa sila ng standards.. remember those extended bumpers for EU market.. same car pero nag iiba ng standard.

sa japan madaming kei cars.. kasi pasok din sa market nila yun.. mga Pilipino gusto yung "AUV" style kasi mga family oriented tayo.. kaya patok yung mga vans at 7 seater ppv

Iba talaga preference per region. Also, if factor sayo yung pagiging global model ng car, marami rin namang options na global models sa pinas like civic, altis, and etc.

pinapanood ko lagi reviews ni mat watson ng carwow... iba talaga ang taste nila sa sasakyan.. kahit nung ni review nya toyota land cruiser, "cheap" pa din sa kanya yan.. kasi yung level nila G wagen.. sa car guide australia naman bidang bida mga diesel everest at dmax

may car manufacturers na mas prefer to sell a model na almost same across the globe.. siguro para mas madali sa production line.. pero at a higher cost sa showroom.. but like toyota they can modify their line-up para sa bansa na pagbebentahan at pasok lang dun sa competitive price..

I think they nailed every price range from 1.7-2.4M. Since you've mentioned the "Q", It does tick all the boxes.

Yes for speed sensing but NO for airbags... only front driver and passenger?

Perfect example is Honda Pilot and LC 200 sa US.

Halos hindi mabenta dito sa Pinas pero pasok sa top 5 sa US.

For Lc200's case naman, hindi mabenta sa US, pero toyota being toyota, came up with the sequoia.

Was referring to the base model fortuner though... sabi kasi ni mr. egan, yung iba pinipili nila ang fortuner kaysa innova even though it has a less powerful engine, and it will probably be the used for the same purpose i.e. city driving only, no off-roading, etc... Yung iba kasi, basta naka fortuner na, #goals na sa kanila. Again nothing wrong, it’s just an odd reason. But it’s their life, at least hindi ninakaw (?) yung pambili.
