Hi, any feedback(s) on the manual transmission ? How is it ? soft and light like on a typical Civic or bit on a heavy like a Patrol Safari or a WRX STi ?

The manual transmission was produced by Aisin and is closely related to the S2000 transmission.

It's pretty good. Less notchy, actually, than the same transmission in the MX-5 (with the triple synchros and all), though the throw is longer.

The MX-5's steering is still sweeter, and it's more lively feeling than the 86 at lower speeds thanks to the better balance and light weight, but the 86 feels just like you'd expect a more powerful, stiffer MX-5 to feel like. Still needs 50 hp more, but supremely competent and infinitely adjustable through a corner. Slightly disappointed that it didn't really feel all that much better than an MX-5,. The electric steering is very good, but still lacks the fine detail and feedback of the Mazda. Who knows, might be the tires. But hell, it's 700k cheaper, so that's not a big deal. And the boxer warble at low revs is delicious. Save yourself the money and stick with the manual. The automatic car loses 90% of the benefits of the 86 in that you can't balance it on the throttle as easily, leaving it feeling slightly inert.

Of course, at 1.5m, also, the Genesis 2.0T is more powerful and nearly as competent. It's not quite as focused as the 86, the gearshift is rubbery and feels almost like a FWD cable-operated system and the steering wheel is slick and slippery, but it hustles a lot like an S15 Silvia, is progressive when the rear end starts to come around, and the interior is a lot better than the 86's.

I can think of some pretty good reasons to buy either.

Man. Tough decisions for anyone buying today...
