Altis units made in 2008-2012 with the 1ZZ-FE (1.8) or 3ZZ (1.6) seems to have stabilized at the 200-300k mark, I'm looking for a 2nd hand unit for my dad who drives everyday in Manila traffic. His other car is a 2012 Fortuner 2.5 A/T, so automatic is a no-brainer and road comfort is the main priority.
I've read that the ZZ engine's main issue are high oil consumption due to faulty design in the piston rings in high mileage engines. But I am able to find low mileage Altises (as low as 14K KM reading).
Are they still a good buy? In terms of maintenance and fuel consumption? Or are there better alternatives now for the money?

why do you think your dad wants an altis or a second car?
the altis is a reliable car, if it is reasonably maintained. i have a 1.6 2003 AT. reliable siya, even after 105K km. ...7-8 km/li..
but i prefer driving my 2005 diesel innova MT over it. 'la lang. gusto, eh.. 9-10 km/li.
compared to today's mini cars, the altis consumes more fuel. but the ride is also better.
btw,
try out the car first.
they're not as spacious inside, as what they appear to be, outside.
no car is reliable, if it is abused.Last edited by dr. d; September 24th, 2019 at 09:55 PM.

btw if good condition ang makuha mo kahit anong auto, madali lang mag maitain IMO

September 25th, 2019 11:38 AM #4Brother owns a 2009 1. 6 a/t. Good working condition pa din namam, nothing really mechancially wrong with the car.
Pag after 3 days tsaka namin nagamit, parang hirap umandar yung kotse.
Altis naging palit namin is wheel bearing and front suspension related (tabingi yung isang gulong comppared sa isa na tuwid...

September 27th, 2019 11:38 AM #8since you are looking at pre owned. might as well look for 1.6 1.8 or even 2.0. price wise I don't think magkakalayo sila if at all. just pick the balance of Fuel consumption performance features that you like.
