MANILA, Philippines—Rodolfo "Jun" Lozada, key witness in the Senate investigation into the controversy surrounding the scuttled $329-M National Broadband Network project with Chinese firm ZTE, faces arrest for perjury for his Senate testimony but will not resist as a sign of protest.
An arrest warrant against Lozada is expected to be served anytime after the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 11 issued a resolution dated March 19, 2009 approving his arrest for the perjury case filed by presidential aide Michael Defensor.
Lozada will not resist arrest as an act of protest, according to the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines (AMRSP) which has given Lozada and his family sanctuary since he testified before the Senate in November 2007.
"The arrest order is a brazen abuse of power by this administration to punish Jun Lozada for having the courage to tell the people the whole truth about state-sponsored corrupt practices," the AMRSP said in a statement.
"This arrest order is a warning to other people both inside and outside of the government who have knowledge of important information related to the practice of corruption of people in power to shut up or else. Is this a warning to all the critics of this GMA regime?" it added.
The AMRSP said the perjury case has been previously dismissed by the court for lack of probable cause, but Manila RTC Branch 11 reversed the decision upon Defensor's appeal through his counsel the Fortun Narvasa law firm.
"Jun Lozada refuses to be cowed by these threats, warning or harassment," the AMRSP went on.
"It is for this reason that Jun Lozada will simply wait for his arrest warrant to be served. He does not intend to post bail. He will wait for the "law enforcers" to conduct him to jail. This is his form of protest against all the moves of this administration aimed at him (and his family) to make him stop telling the truth," it added.
A copy of the Manila RTC resolution was served to Lozada at the La Salle Green Hills last April 14.

We need more people like Jun Lozada to be in our midst! MABUHAY ANG SAMBAYANANG PILIPINO!
