Rides as if the suspension was made wood.

Fine if you are off-roading. Tiring if you are driving on the road for long distances.

Honestly, if the road is flooded and looks deep, best NOT to even attempt to drive through it.

So the point of that a manual tranny is best in floods might not be as much of a deciding factor as compared to driving comfort for the other 300 days of the year spent on the road driving.

Most of the "soft-road" vehicles would fit the bill. The would include: Xtrail, CRV, RAV4, Escape, Fusion, etc.

If you are worried about gasoline bills, you can convert them to Auto-LPG if you have an Auto-LPG refilling station nearby or along the way.

You could also look into the Montero Sport 4x2 and Fortuner if you have a bigger budget.

The AUVs on the market would probably do for your budget:

    1. Innova E or G; D4D or VVT-i
    2. Crosswind XUV
    3. Adventure GLS

But if you want the Crossover SUVs then you want to look at the
    Ford Escape 2.3 VVT 4X2 A/T for 990k.

if you prefer gas , the soft roaders like the crv, xtrail or escape/tribute will be a good compromise, but if you want something tougher at the same price, try getting the 4x2 pick ups in the market, they also have manual transmission, strada, navarra, everest comes into mind. and for under 1m, you will have a lot of choices. getting those auvs would be ok but the crosswind and adventure are severely outdated. innova or the suzuki apv might be a better route should you decide to go this route. good luck on what ever you pick.
