when the tire is in regular use, its said to "expire" in two to three years depending on how severe the heat cycle the tire goes thru.

dito sa oil rig we have a special room for rubber spare parts. controlled ang temperature (cool around 25 degrees) and humidity must not be less than 50% but no more than 80%. pag mainit kasi lumulutong ang rubber, ganun din pag low humidity. pag sobra naman init saka high humidity lumalambot. pag masyado naman malamig kumukunat. and lahat may expiry date based on date of manufacture. most of the rubber parts we have here are marked by manufacturers with expiry dates but those expiry dates are dependent on proper storage conditions. kaya nga controlled namin ang temperature saka humidity ng "rubber room".

performance tires with softer rubber tends to wear out in under two years so thats no problem. But the long lasting tires like GoodYear Eagle NCT3 might still be rolling on the same car after 4 to 5 years.

September 26th, 2003 05:45 AM #7Read an article before that mentioned tires on a vehicle that is seldom used should be changed after 6 years since they become brittle and tend to crack on the sidewall.

Yup, this is true. Even if brand new ang goma, basta old stock medyo hindi na up to standard yung rubber. 4 to 5 years ang alam ko.
