The 2 rear tires on my civic 1997 are in bad shape due to alignment problems, but the ones in front are still okay. I'm going to have the alignment done and am planning to change only the rear tires, but with a different brand than the current ones installed. Is it okay to have different brand of tires so long as the specs are the same?

Yes. Buy in pair. Same size.

Since your car in a front wheel drive, place the newest pair up front and the previous but good ones at the rear.

Thanks Gerbo! Had my tires changed and had the new ones installed in front. The tire shop also suggested the same thing.
