Let me guess, this was either suggested by casa or by a reputable wheel alignment shop. What was your complaint that led them to suggest that those parts need replacement? My suggestion is to have someone knowledgeable accompany you when having your car fixed. You can always make new friends

June 21st, 2015 09:39 PM #265Hi Sir Beeftapa!
It's from the mechanic. A friend of a friend. I guess it's needed since my car is 10 years old already.
Actually sir my car is in their shop now. Had bigger problem. Timing belt broke and had my engine repaired. I was clueless since I had it checked before and the guy said it was chain or something and it doesn't need replacement. It was stupid of me to believe him. Until it gave in. Now it cost me so much. I'm at 60k bill now for the engine overhauling and some part replacements. No idea yet what are those. Hasn't received itemized list. The parts I'm inquiring here are additional pa po na for replacement daw. So I decided to ask around how much ba talaga kc Ito po quote sakin for the shocks alone:
If original parts
Front shocks 9950 per pc
Rear shocks 4300 per pc.
If replacement jap parts
Front shocks 4950 per pc
Rear shocks 3800 per pc
Labor: replace 4 shocks: 2000
The other parts no quote yet that's why I'm asking po pra may idea Lang. I'm guessing with everything It will cost me 100k for original parts. And that's big money. But safety is important so if cost is really this much then no choice but to spend that much. Just inquiring to know if okay din replacement parts pra makatipid ng konti. Salamat po!

June 21st, 2015 10:16 PM #266If you have the budget and safety/peace of mind is prime concern then nothing beats going original. My advise is, replace only what is needed. Those bearings and suspension parts dont expire simultaneously. Unlike the engine, they do have symptoms before total failure.

Hmm... why not just replace the timing belt when it is the one broken? If work hasn't been done yet, I suggest to have a second opinion in other mechanics and bring someone with at least some knowledge. To answer your question, Yes jap replacement parts are fine, as long as they are not surplus. Always ask for the parts receipt, and normally they come with a few months warranty.
To be honest, there is a chance that your mechanic is not trustworthy. And if safety is your concern, you can sell your car instead of having it repaired for that much and just use it as a dp for a new one.

Honestly, I don't know anyone close who knows car well. I've limited male friends. I've only one female sibling. Parents are from the province. No relatives here. But thank you for the suggestion, I'll ask friends to can recommend someone who knows car to help me check next weekend.
With the broken timing belt he said the engine got damaged because I forced driving it still. It took about a month before I was able to have it checked because I went out of the country. Some oil leaked and damaged the spark plugs, etc. Initially he said we might need a new engine. But after evaluation he told me it can be fixed. When I've asked him where we at now at the cost he told me is its at 60k already. Been waiting for the detailed list but none sent yet. The awkward thing is he the bf of my friend so it's quite hard to demand if you know what i mean.
I really have no idea about parts and repairs. All I know is to drive and gas up. Bring it for change oil, alignment, car wash, had the break pad changed.. Those minor sort. Due for 100k mileage maintenance and boom! Timing belt broke and engine destroyed.

June 22nd, 2015 12:55 AM #269You don't have to know lots about maintenance but atleast read the manual and follow the PMS schedule then your car should last longer. neglecting the engine often comes with a hefty price and with a dead engine your car is useless.
Timing belt replacement is stipulated on the manuel.if T-belt snaps then there would be major damages(if its an interfering engine) like valves colliding the piston. There are also MAW might as well replace parts along with the T-belt replacement that includes pulleys, tensioner bearings, oil seals, and water pump. Take a 2nd opinion from reputable shops.

June 22nd, 2015 01:48 AM #270Well some lessons are learned the hard (and expensive) way.. No point regretting now. Yep it got to 60k because of that. So I'm trying to save on other parts that needs replacement. I'd Iike to have it in good running condition that's why lots of parts will be replaced. Just need advise where to source out the parts and if the mechanic is charging me fairly. Thank you for the advise sir.
