it is easier to fix a stuck shifter than it is to fix a stucked shifter. check your fuses first

Depending on the nature of the problem, you could probably fix this yourself.

This part of the info you probably already know: There's an inter-lock circuit the locks the shifter in Park. To free it, you need to step on the brakes, which energizes a solenoid to unlock the shifter.

If any of the following components fail, the shifter will be stuck in Park:

    1. Brake light fuse
    2. Brake light switch
    3. Shift inter-lock solenoid
    4. Loose electrical connections or damaged wires

If all of the above checked out ok, then the problem may be a lot worse and there's really a problem with the shifter linkage/mechanism or the transmission itself. In which case, it's now time to leave it to the pros.

for emergency, if it is stuck in P try locating the small plastic plug on the transmission shifter cover (read you manual it should tell you where it is). this cover is for exactly this situation. pry out the cover with a small screw driver or knife. it will reveal a small hole. insert a small screw driver into the hole and this should release the shift inter-lock and you will be able to shift from P. just remember to not shift back to P while waiting on a stop light or something.

if you can't locate the plug that covers this small hole (because maybe there is none, mine has) you might have to remove the cover itself. you'll need to remove maybe 3-4 (or more) screws and pry it off. you can then easily see the plastic mechanism that is activated by a solenoid that is keeping you from shifting from P. study how it releases, then tie it with a string/tape/wire in the release position so you can drive your car to the workshop where it can be fixed.

hopefully you have NOT parked on a very steep incline and have forgotten to put the hand brakes really hard before shifting to P. some parking brakes tend to get stuck. remember shifting to P will engage a toothed gear into the drive shaft that acts as a brake on the driven wheel. then you'll need to get some really big friends to push your car uphill 1 inch to release the engaged teeth.

yung sinabi ni oj88 tama yun lahat. if you step on the brakes and the brake lights do not light up then the problem most probably is either a busted brake fuse, a stuck open brake switch, or loose wires from the switch/fuse box (in order of probability). if the brake lights light up then it can be a faulty shift inter-lock solenoid or loose wires to the solenoid.
