Running cars with unreleased handbrake

Good day...

Ask ko lang po kung ano ang effect sa car(A/T), na tumakbo ng about 5 kms. na naka handbrake?

How'd that happen? Was the handbrake fully engaged? Or partially lang (i.e. naka ilaw lang yung (!) light pero halos nakababa na)

It happened to me dati -- the shoulder bag strap of my front passenger got snagged doon sa hand brake. Umangat ng konti. I only noticed it after 5 minutes of driving. No harm done.

Pero kung fully engaged ang hand brake, I don't know what damage will be done....

Naka fully engaged yong handbrake, kasi galing sa park tapos nakalimutan kong released yong handbrake.

Ano kaya ang dapat kong tingnan o i-check kung merong na damage sa sasakyan?

methink kung naka fully engaged and hand brake, di mo mapapatakbo ang vehicle with automatic tranny. kung halfway lang, the vehicle could run, the effect would just be worn out brake pads. check mo na lang kung ok pa ang engagement ng hand brake, by counting how many clicks it could take before it is fully engaged. Usually, it takes 3 to 5 clicks. the other adverse effect would be that of a burned out tranny. Just check your ATF condition. Kung red pa rin, still OK.

I am also wondering.... May long term effect kaya yan? 5kms is way too long....

I think the worst that can happen is that the brake shoes or pads engaged by your parking brake will wear out. That's pretty much it.

I doubt the A/T would encounter any stress - transmissions are usually over-engineered for the cars they're going to be put into.

it also happened to my car a while ago..tinuturuan ko kasi si gf magdrive then nagtataka ko kung bakit parang galit na galit yung engine e di naman umaandar masyado..yun pala naka engage yung hand brake..not sure kung may masamang effect..hope wala

kung first time lang naman and only once.. mangangamoy sunog yung rear drum breaks mo (since connected to handbrake), and of course lakas sa gas kasi the engine is over exerting effort to make the car run.. pero no major damage unless kung may tama na talaga yung brakes (wear and tear)

kung parati yan nangyayari, malamang kalbo kaagad yung brake paddings and/or kakalas yung buong rear brake assembly mo..

kung wala ka naman nararamdaman na out of the ordinary then ok pa siguro yan... but if you're the paranoid type and meron ka freetime, pacheck mo na rin sa brake specialist talyer to be sure.
