Hydrogen for tire? Are you talking about inflating tires with this gas? Absolutely not! Hydrogen is incredibly combustible. It's like signing your own death warrant.

Nitrogen e pwede pa. In fact, many shops are offering it now. I've seen one along West Ave., dun sa N.H. Miller (php50/tire).

ang hilig talga nating pinoy sa exotic, even for our cars and gadgets.
first time i heard about nitrogen for tires, i really cant figure out what advantage will it give.

kala ko totoo na they're now putting hydrogen in car tyres, nakow, that's a roadside chernobyl waiting to happen. :D while we're at it, siguro subukan na din natin nobel gases like argon and xenon sa car tyres. lagyan mo na lang ng electrical connection yun at may glowing neon tyres ka na hehehe

ako, compressed air will do, although mabantot ang compressed air natin sa gasolinahan eh. sana maglagay man lang sila ng air filter, dryer para di bumabaho hangin sa gulong. subukan nyo amoyin ewan kung di kayo ma knockout punch sa bantot

This made me lolz...

Maybe we can fill a specially made tubed tire with hydrogen and increase fuel economy by lifting the car off the road...hehehehehe!!!

I'm still having second thoughts on nitrogen-filled tires...I'll research more on this. What the heck, I hope Mythbusters will feature this issue!

Sir, you're right. But one important point that I will add is that Nitrogen is an inert gas and being an inert gas it does not support combustion, that's why it is being used to pressurised dry chemical powder fire extinguishers and is the very reason aircraft and the space shuttle use nitrogen in their tires. The wisdom of this precaution was brought home by the crash of Mexicana Airlines flight 940 on March 31, 1986. Shortly after being 727 took off from Mexico City en route to Pureto Vallarta, an overheated landing-gear brake caused a tire improperly filled with air instead of nitrogen to overheat as well and explode, rupturing fuel and hydraulic lines. The ensuing fire and crash killed 167passengers and crew. However, unless your driving habits are of the X-treme variety, the chances of your tires catching fire anytime soon are slim.
But for tire inflation, there's nothing better than nitrogen. Nitrogen provides better maintenance of tire pressure which maximizes...Fuel Economy, handling, safety and reliability, tire life.... and it's better for the environment!
Nitrogen provides better maintenance of tire pressure. Because of its larger molecular size, nitrogen migrates through a tire three to four times slower than oxygen. A tire filled with "plain old air" will lose 1.5 psi in less than a month; with nitrogen, this could take three months or longer.

And after it loses 1.5psi in less than a month, what then? How much would they lose after that, and at what rate?

My rides' tires don't appear "too soft" after more than half a year of not refilling their plain old air.

IMO, we don't need Nitrogen for our cars. This overhyped nitrogen is what we like to call "panakokitan" in Kapampangan, which is a combination of "panako" and "panakitan" which mean "nakaw" and "income", respectively.

hehehe kanya kanya yan sir

i have nitrogen on my tires because i can have it for free, if its not for free, and i would not fill my tires with it, otherwise, im one of the lazy people who cant check their tire for its weekly status. thus my tires are great. matagtag pa din

maintenance is the best prevention

Maybe you can call it a "overhyped" or "nakaw" sa "Income" or what ever you like. Pero wala namam sila siguro manakaw sa iyo sir dahil ayaw mo nga di ba?. he he he he he. Anyway, that is your opinion but mind you sir hindi lang yan ang advantage that it can give to you. Pero I will leave that to you to know what are those. You are not interested anyway. For me I will use it and in fact I am currently using it for the main purpose, "SAFETY". My safety and safety of my family and my passenger as well. and for me that is the best advantage that this "overhyped" or nakaw sa income as what you call it (Nitrogen). With your due respect sir, ito ay opinion ko lang and everybody are intittled to their own opinion. Cheers.

You're right, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, and I thank you for respecting mine. I also respect yours in turn.

I don't think I'm missing anything. Everything about this hype has been discussed already in this thread.

My family has been using private vehicles since the 1970's, all with ORDINARY AIR in their tires. We've never had accidents caused by flat tires. Sure, there were instances where the tires got blown out during high speed runs but no untoward incidents occurred then.

Oh, not only were our family cars using plain old air, but so were all the other ordinary vehicles on the streets of the Philippines, including the tricycles and jeepneys and mini-buses and buses that we took everyday of our lives. Never once did I encounter accidents caused by using ordinary air in their tires.

I'm quite sure my father also considered our safety even then. But was there NITROGEN for car wheels back then? When did this hype start to take off? It's not even 3 years yata. What were all the cars using before that? That's right, ordinary air.

I'm just saying. Oh, by the way...
Anyway, that is your opinion but mind you sir hindi lang yan ang advantage that it can give to you. Pero I will leave that to you to know what are those. You are not interested anyway.
Nah, I *am* interested. Well, at least I *was*. Still, offering counter opinions does not signify disinterest. In fact, it only means I *care* because I don't want others to be fooled.

Please note that:"I will leave that to you to know what are those" only means "I can't think of any right now" to me. Sorry, but I'm jaded. I've encountered too many similar statements already. Just my take.

i beg to disagree brother...

minsan ko na ginawa eto. nag refill ako ng hangin and after quite some time, say mga 2-3 months ata without checking tire pressure, from 26 psi bumaba lang siya ng... 24 psi. so in the span of 2 or 3 months, 2 psi lang ang nabawas!

baka naman may "butas" ang gulong na eto, that's why you can say 1.5psi loss in less than a month. and by the way, is that 1.5psi of yours is constant per tire? :hammer:

mga sir share ko lang po experience ko with Nitrogen filled tires.

when i got my tucson last june 2009, i immediately put it nitrogen sa lahat ng tires. i'm using the vehicle practically everyday. to date, my tucson's current mileage is almost 4,000 KM. reason why it got that high is because we're residing in calamba laguna and every night, hinahatid ko misis ko sa work niya sa alabang. since mataas na tinakbo ng tucson ko, i thought of checking the tire pressure. of course, i let the tires cool down first for about an hour or 2 before checking the pressure (since galing sa byahe). it's over 2 months already since i put nitrogen on the tires and good thing, the tire pressure are still the same.

sana wala pong mag quote sa post ko with negative reactions. i'm just sharing my experience having nitrogen filled tires.
