You can use any fully synthetic oil with 5w30 viscosity and with API SN/ILSAC GF5 rating. The boxer engines are not rated for mineral or semi-synthetic oils (check manual). I am currently using Zic X7 5w30 FS but I bought Mag1 FS 5w30 for next oil change.
Check Lazada or Shopee for options.

June 6th, 2020 10:18 AM #3363Hello, Forester family.
I'm new to this thread, been reading through for a couple of days now.
I am planning to purchase a used 2014 to 2016 FXT, mainly because of the turbo charged, AWD feature. I am planning to daily drive it for the next couple of years.
However, I found in some US based forums that this model is prone to excessive oil consumption? is that true for Asian made models?
I cannot find anything in this thread pertaining to this issue, or I must have missed it.
In addition, what are the the most common issues, and is it expensive to own?
looking forward to learn from you guys.
Cheers!

The older SH XT with the 2.5L turbo had some issues with oil burning. I have a 2016 XT and I use it 3-4 times a week. I have had no issues with oil burning.
If you want to buy a used one, make sure you ask the owner of its complete maintenance history.

Subaru has settled in an oil consumption lawsuit in the US a while back. Please note that most there may be following the longer 6k mi Oil Change Interval compared to owners on here. Shorter OCI would clearly mask oil burn & make it a non-issue. Just make sure to periodically check the dipstick.

It has to do with the engine design. The older EJ25 turbo engine was commonly reported to suffer oil burning, specially for the XT and WRX.
With the newer FA20 turbo, Subaru may have done something to address the oil burning issue. Based on posts from Subaru groups, the FA20 is robust enough and used on a number of vehicles (FA20 NA - BRZ/86, FA20 turbo - XT/Levorg/WRX/S4).
In terms of Subaru turbo cars during break in period, Subaru suggests no redline revving within the first 1k.

Within the first 1k km lang naman. Easily doable on my end. I was just driving mostly in Intelligent mode which switch gears in lower rpms. After the 1k mark, I got to stretch its legs on NLEX-SCTEX and know how capable it is in both Sport and Sport# mode.
