Carjackers and carnappers don't care about DRLs. What they care about are cars that are common and easy to dispose.
Carnappers also don't need to see if a car has DRLs to know if it's expensive or not. They will not pass on a Fortuner G if the opportunity is present, even if it doesn't have the DRLs of the Fortuner V.
Also, a Forester is not a carnapper's favorite because it isn't as common as other cars. Although it's the best selling CUV, CUVs sell far less than PPVs and MPVs.
If your Forester would get stolen, it would be because carnappers had an opportunity to, and not because it stood out because it has DRLs. Having it disabled does nothing.
DRLs aren't thought of as a high end feature either, especially now that many people put 3rd party DRLs anyway.
The reason why many people have reacted to your claim that DRLs increase chances of getting carnapped is because the correlation does not exist. There are no empirical studies proving this, and the logic behind it doesn't seem very sound, especially from the point of view of a thief.

May 24th, 2016 09:43 AM #1913Thanks for the points. I'm really more concerned about opportunists. Dati at Espana a guy who had rice bowl in his hands suddenly fell down in front even if I didn't hit him.. while falling down he threw the rice at my hood.. then he habol me and told me he would break my windows if I don't give him 1500 pesos.. ayaw nya kahit 1000 pesos. Wala ako kasama that time. Now my Forester tint are kinda light. So if the DRLs are on.. mas mapansin car ko and mas mabilis ma kita ako sa loob na alone and the opportunists may strike again. This makes more sense, isn't it. If I make my tints dark. I can't see well at night. Later or tomorrow if I have time I'll post the pics of my tints so can get feedback of the best tint shades (or in other forums). Thanks.

You're working on that premise that DRLs make your car more "takaw-mata" compared to other cars. With DRLs so common nowadays, I don't think this holds much water. And besides, it just looks like you're driving with your lights on in broad daylight. Nothing particularly eyecatching with that.
In your example, whether you had DRLs or not, the man could've still picked on you if you were passing by his spot at the right time.
I have clear tints on one car and medium on the other, and drive alone 80% of the time. I don't get harassed by street kids/thugs more frequently on my car with clear tints even if it's easier to see that I'm alone.
Anyway, at the end of the day, it's your car and you're free to do as you wish with it, regardless of what others may advise. As I always say, go with what makes you happy. 😊

May 24th, 2016 09:53 AM #1915Btw.. here's the video I just put at youtube of the swiveling headlights of the 2.0i-L facelift that can turn left or right depending on the steering direction. When you put the headlight switch to Auto and turn on the engine, the LED lights turn left and right first.. parang eyes, hehe...

In the Toyota forums.. dozens have already bought the Innova and Fortuner 2016.. who else has bought a Forester 2016 facelift here beside me? Do you like it?

My Variant is the basic 2.0i-L I paid at exactly 1,448,000 (no discount of any kind). Yes, the new iP and XT share the same front bumpers with inlet slit on each side. But I didn't get the iP because I may as well get the Santa Fe or even a Hammer if I have the budget. Btw.. in the picture above.. one can turn off the SRH (Steering Responsive Headlights) if you don't like the headlights to move as your steer left or right..

If you drive an expensive car, with or without DRL, you will get noticed. With DRL or without, one should always be aware of your surroundings ALL the time. This applies whether you are driving, commuting, walking, etc. Most new cars now have DRL, even the Mitsubishi Mirage has them. Heck, even some jeepneys have DRLs.
