I don't think AWD is necessary in a small CUV that isn't used for rough roads anyway. It's added weight which can affect fuel economy.
For cars like the Juke and Ecosport which have small engines, AWD is more of a burden than a boon.

But when you compare the XV to other CUVs, the AWD of the XV is a benefit Juke and CX-3 don't have.
