^ natuto na din kasi iyan si kiefer sa misadventures niya last season hehe
i think the mental burden of last season's tragic final 4 campaign will weigh heavily in the minds of the bulldogs. it's not easy for alolino and co. to erase the thought and the humiliation of bungling their superior twice-to-beat advantage and then helplessly watch their opponent go at it against dlsu. the loss probably even made bobby ray parks fly to the states posthaste and take on his dream of making the nba
if ateneo's defense down low limits rosario and khobuntin tomorrow, i see the blue and white "loyolalists" smiling like crazy in the following days. heck, a final 4 appearance for a team made up of role players were not even in the cards for a lot of experts and pundits.

Baka panahon ni Norman Black. There was one year that FEU was top seeded while Ateneo was not even considered a finals contender (the 3rd championship i think) then ADMU swept FEU in the finals (no-contest). Back then, FEU had a better team on paper but the coach (Black versus was it Glenn Capacio?) factor put Ateneo in good favor when they entered the finals. Heck the team now seems to have more talent then what Norman Black had in that year but they played more steadily and consistently because of discipline and good player rotation. I agree, malaki talaga ang coach factor when you think of going for all in the season and when you talk of a sports program.
Ateneo really has to put in more defense in the system IMO and play heads-up b-ball the whole game. Ampch, they can't rely on allowing the opposing team to score the lights out up to the half of the 4th quarter then play heroic catch-up.

Malakas depensa nang NU at malalaki din kaya hindi dapat magpalamang ang ateneo sa opening pa lang. Mahirap habulin ang team na ganyan. Sana maka-adjust na sila.

i have to respectfully disagree w/ this bro because i think the the 5peat years were products of the solid norman black system and more importantly, superior talents executing that system.
it's almost always overlooked that justin chua, nico salva, tonino gonzaga, and ryan buenafe were coach norman recruits. except for buenafe, all the other names i mentioned were the core of the valuable 5 successive rings under the black magic system. those marquee college players were undoubtedly heads and shoulders above - build and skills wise - the present crop of blue eagles; w/ the exception of kiefer ravena , of course.
that's why i sometimes feel for bo perasol whenever he's being compared to coach norman's successes (although some criticisms are valid). since last season, coach bo has been making the best of the players and circumstances he was and still is, being dealt with. like i said earlier, at the start of the season, nobody even mentioned the words final 4 and ateneo in the same breath and the reasons for this is obvious: the team is small and the collective talent is above average at best
besides, this loose talk about montinola kowtowing to the basketball aspirations of the blue and white is simply outrageous. i mean, where was this gossip when the blue eagles were struggling last season? where was this accusation when jerie pingoy was (and still is) at the receiving end of the ire of morayta - resulting to the repeated denial of the poor kid's request for his release papers? talk about rumor mongeringLast edited by baludoy; September 24th, 2014 at 12:52 PM.

^Talent wise, the 5 peat ADMU team is better imho as well since they are complete with small and bigs that can really play at both ends. Today, only the little guys play 2 ways efficiently. Sadly Gotladera is not polished offensively and the prized rookie does not play defense nor is a hard-nosed rebounder.
We have to realize as well that the 1999-2002 AdMU team is even more talent laden pero hindi nga nag-back to back. Coach Norman Black deserves the accolade as, so far, the best bench tactician AdMU ever had.
