some news from the other marquee sport of the uaap:
‘Parang Barangay Ginebra ang Ateneo,’ Army coach Rico de Guzman says
By Rivals PH on August 18, 2014
MANILA — After a long and exhausting journey in the 7-game eliminations and in the 5-game quarterfinals round robin, powerhouse Philippine Army sits pretty at the top of the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 Open Conference standings and is now playing the waiting game on who it will be facing in the semifinals which is set to start this Thursday.
Fighting it out for the right to face the mighty Lady Troopers are the red-hot Ateneo Lady Eagles and Army’s AFP rivals in Philippine Air Force Raiders.
The two are set to clash this Tuesday for the final semifinals slot in the tournament and Army coach Rico de Guzman isn’t hiding the fact that he has a preferred opponent in mind.
While most coaches will shy away from answering questions about preferred opponents, de Guzman was quick to answer that he’d rather face their longtime rivals in the Raiders instead of a Lady Eagle squad who didn’t drop a single game in the quarterfinals.
“Air Force nalang kami. Parang Barangay Ginebra ang Ateneo e,” De Guzman said, comparing the Lady Eagles to Ginebra, the PBA’s most popular ball club.
“Ang kalakasan ng Ateneo pag bumanat na yung crowd nila. Name-mental block kami, natutulala yung mga player ko, yung yung iniiwasan ko pag Ateneo ang kalaban namin. Alam mo naman si (Alyssa) Valdez, iba talaga ang hatak sa audience,” he added.
De Guzman was referring to their semifinals match against the reigning UAAP champions wherein they dropped a five-set thriller, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 16-14. The usually steady Lady Troopers committed tons of errors, and gave up 7 service aces in the final set as Ateneo pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament.
He also noted that Ateneo’s strength comes from how Thai coach Anusorn “Tai” Bundit motivates his players heading into the game. Bundit has been known for inducing the “heartstrong” philosophy of the Lady Eagles and de Guzman said that it clearly shows, especially with how the Ateneo bench steps up when called to play.
“Sa two games namin sa Ateneo dikit kaya mas preferred ko na ang Air Force kasi alam ko na ang laro nila,” he said.
“Itong Ateneo bawat isa sa kanila nagsstep up. Kung sino man ipasok ni coach Tai gumaganda ang laro. Mahihirapan kami pag Ateneo ang kalaban.”
However, de Guzman mentioned that he also isn’t taking Air Force lightly as the Raiders seem to be at their best whenever they’re facing Army.
“Pero di rin kami magkumpyansa sa Air Force. Sabi ko nga kay coach (Clarence Esteban) bakit pag Army ang kalaban niyo lumalabas ang laro ng mga player mo? Di talaga pwedeng magkumpyansa, semifinals na yan, paghahandaan natin yan pag nalaman na namin kung sino makakalaban namin.” - CJ/Rivals 2014
* the lady eagles already lost to the air force team, thus effectively ending their campaign in the current shakey's v-league conference

The real deal for the Lady Eagles is defending their Volleyball Championship and go for the two-peat.
Practice lang yung V-League.
GO ATENEO ! OBF!

maganda na depensa, may halo pang swerte.
2 years straight, 4 game losing streak against the nu bulldogs. something's gotta give
kudos to aroga for the defensive blanket around the rim and to rosario for simply being unstoppable. these guys will spell the difference for their title run this season
in any case, 'twas a blast to see the blue eagles clawing their way back in the game. ibang klase lang talaga nilaro ng nu

With the FEU win against DLSU today, the standings look interesting.
Assuming FEU ends up no. 1, NU as no. 2 and Ateneo and La Salle tied for no. 3-4, Ateneo will go up to no. 3 if it is based on the quotient system. So it will be FEU v DLSU again and Ateneo v NU
Interesting scenario.
GO ATENEO! OBF!

^ pwedeng gamechanger para sa ust iyong pumalit kay ferrer (may fractured wrist ata). maski nagmukmok pa din si karim at si mariano naman inconsistent ang production, iyong basibas pwede makatulong ng malaki sa last gasp push nila for a final 4 slot
