Alright, hold your horses Sirs and Maam's!

Here's the thing: my grandmother, who's currently in a coma and in the ICU of UST's Hospital, underwent blood transfusion. To replace the blood she used, I went to their blood bank to replace whatever's used with mine.

I donate blood on a quarterly basis, as they said it's good for the health and beneficial for those who are in need of it. I don't normally experience pain during the extraction or such, but I pretty much had a strain after giving blood this time around.

My arm just hurts everytime I just let it lay around while I stand, moving it normally as I walk hurts even more. I went to our family Doc to ask about it and he said it may just be a result of the blood donation, but it's been already a week and it just still hurts. I had it X-Rayed and whatever medical checks our doctor asked, but it's still there.

Quite frankly it's been ruining my judgment and my mood is just killing me everytime it hurts. I then so asked him to just have it casted for now, but for some reason he just wouldn't, saying "it's not needed" et al.

I thought of having it casted as I've noticed that when it's in the position similar to that of a man with a casted arm, the pain isn't pretty much present.

I tried consulting another Doc for second opinions, but he's pretty much as clueless as our family Doc. I do not wish to discuss this further with other Docs just to get my way or so, heck I don't even have all the time to spend lining up in a hospital just to be told "it's not needed". But it does in fact hurt and I'll be paying anyway.

So what I'd like to ask now is that if anyone knows a doctor who would just cast my arm up, charge me, and ask no questions whatsoever? This arm is just really too much of a hassle these days and I'm pretty much sure it's getting on my colleagues' nerves as well.

TIA for everyone's tip and advice! God bless!

^ Might not be sturdy enough to restrict his arms within the "sweet spot". But yeah, at least it can be tried on before buying.

To the TS: Might be a torn vein or an infection. Shouldn't hurt for more than a week. If blood is somehow blocked at the vein, the whole arm could hurt due to lack of circulation. Casting it might make it worse. Just my 2c.

Problem kasi Sir would be if I unconsciously put it out and try to lay it at ease again - pain. At least when it's casted I'm pretty much sure I won't move it carelessly.

Note taken Sir. I did had anti-tetanus already just in case together with mefenamic. I might inquire about the torn vein though. Thanks

    Sir,
Unfortunately, your family physician may not be specialized in properly assessing the reason behind your complaint.
A physician who specializes in musculoskeletal and/or nerve/veins will need to know the cause of the pain in your arm in order to know the right management to do.

    There are 2 possible reasons.
    1. If as initially discussed, if it is due to a vein or arterial problem, you will see either a reddening or bluish coloration on the area with pain plus swelling.
    2. If it is due to a muscle or tendon problem, a particular movement such as extending your elbow or bending your wrist or moving your fingers can increase the pain.

So you should see a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist in your trusted hospital. If you are in UST, visit the Apolinario Mabini Rehabilitaiton Center at the 1st floor beside the Xray.
You might need some medications and an arm or wrist immobilizer.

A cast is an overkill and most likely will not be done.

Bro, hingi ka na lang ng referral mula sa family doc ninyo to a specialist. Dami kasi puwedeng cause. Ang sure lang ako, hindi mo dapat piliting i cast kasi baka mag backfire o lumala pa. Maybe your family doc can prescribe you pain killers na din til you get to see the specialist na ni refer.

Taken your advices Sir. Just used an arm sling instead. Also took MRI and consulted a specialist at POC. Though it already feels pretty good now just being restrained by the sling. Kinda hard not to be able to use it for typing though. hehe

    Thanks po sa mga advice!

^you end up with the sling din pala...hehehe

Is there a Doctor that could cast you without asking why?
