there is one that could give idea..HISTORY..
usually hemorrhagic stroke are usually in coma and and deteriorates rapidly, unless the bleeding is controlled and the the clotted blood removed at OR. usual history? very severe splitting headache that sends one to his knees, there can be a shout or a cry, then patient fells down unconscious.
embolics? History pa rin. chronic hypertensive and hyperlipidemic, usually fainting spell or dizziness spell. but usually awake and nakakausap mo pa, ngiwi nga lang..

not all hospitals may tPA or CTScan..
yup, bleeding will be your problem, especially if you gave it to a hemorrhagic case..
sa bundok, i have a case of embolic stroke. mataas ang BP, weakness on right side. no tPa. no CTScan. ayaw magparefer to a tertiary center.. so i was forced to pull out all i can sa hospital at sa nearby pharmacies what they can supply.. old school aspirin and newer clopidogrel ang ginawa.. ngayon, patient is on stable bp, fully regained all muscle strength and sensation of previously affected side to full capacity. the only thing we did not able to get back, his voice. medyo ngiwi na talaga sya magsalita. but he was thankful that he can walk normally, use his hands properly.

hey docs, got another question
this time re blood thinners
i understand there are a number of blood thinners (antiplatelet drugs like aspirin, dipyridamole, clopidogrel. anticoagulant drugs like vit.K antagonists, heparin)
how do you doctors decide which to prescribe?
what factors do you look at?
