August 13th, 2013 06:54 PM #859Castro willing to give the NBA a try given a chance, but happy to stay put

GILAS Pilipinas standout Jayson Castro shrugged off reported interest from some NBA scouts, saying he is willing to try his luck overseas if given the chance but more than happy to stay put.
Fresh from an impressive stint at the 27th Fiba- Asia Championship, the soft-spoken Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters guard told Spin.ph that he is not taking speculations seriously until he has an actual offer in front of him.
“Ah, wala. Wala yun. Never ko nga kinu-consider na makukuha ako dun. Hindi naman ako ganun kagaling," said the 5-10 point guard named to this year's Mythical All-Star Selection.
“Sa ngayon sa PBA talaga ang focus ko. Masaya na ako sa PBA,” added the lightning-fast dribbler from Pampanga.
Castro’s agent, Danny Espiritu, said he has also been hearing talk about the interest on his prized client, particularly by New York Knicks scout Gary Boyson.
“Nakursunadahan nga daw siya (ni Boyson). Sila ni (Iran's Hamed) Haddadi. Pero hindi ko pa nakakausap kasi hindi naman niya ako kilala,” said Espiritu.

Still, Espiritu said doesn’t expect to encounter any problem with Talk ‘N Text if and when Castro gets a shot at playing in the NBA.
“Mabait ang Talk ‘N Text, so kung bibigyan si Jason ng one-month o maikling contract sa NBA, I’m sure hindi nila haharangin yun. Pride nila at ng bayan yun,” the player agent explained.
Veteran internationalist Rajko Toroman said he would not be surprised if the pint-sized Castro's offensive repertoire had indeed caught the eye of Boyson and other international scouts.
“He played really well. He was outstanding being one of Gilas’ best players. He is so quick and he showed that he can shoot the ball and everything,” Toroman said.
Castro, who made a deadly habit of finding holes in quick transitions, averaged 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3 assists in 20 minutes per game for Gilas.
“He can make it internationally. I know, but which level… That is for us to see now,” added the former Olympic coach.
Toroman also shared his talk with Knicks scout Boyson, who told him: “He said he was here to see Hamed Hadadi and some other things … probably Jason is (sic) ‘the some other things’ and the young Korean kid!”
Castro isn't swayed by the reports but insisted he is open to giving the NBA a try.
“Kung pag ta try-outin ako, siyempre pupunta ako roon. As a player, pride mo yun. Kahit ma-cut ka yung tinawag ka pa lang nila, ibig sabihin may halaga ka,” said the player nicknamed 'The Blur.'
Asked what surname he would use if he makes it to the NBA, the 27-year old former PCU Dolphin born ‘Jayson Castro William’ said: "Castro’ pa rin. Kasi mas Pilipino 'yun. Mas nakaka-proud dalhin ang pangalang Pinoy. Natuwa nga ako kasi kahit sa Fiba-Asia, Castro pa rin tawag sa akin.”
Totoo kaya ito??
