Chinese Club Will Block Yi's Move To Milwaukee
July 17, 2007 - 10:41 am
ESPN -
The Milwaukee Bucks ' campaign to secure the services of reluctant power forward Yi Jianlian has suffered a blow after the player's Chinese club said it would block his move to the United States.
Yi, taken by Milwaukee with the sixth selection in the NBA draft last month, would "definitely not" play for Milwaukee, Tuesday's Beijing News quoted Guangdong Tigers chief, Chen Haitao, as saying.
"This is not -- as media reports have said -- because Milwaukee, as a city with very few Chinese people, is not good for Yi's commercial development," Chen said.
"Rather we want to find a team suitable for Yi's growth. That's the root of the problem," he added.

Bad move by Yi's handlers. David Stern should do something to protect teams like the Bucks from people like these.

just shut up and play, Yi. look at your countryman, Yao. he reported to work, collected his millions, and played. now, he's a worldwide phenomenon and gets more commercial opportunities than he can ever hope to handle. he will continue to get those marketing opportunities even if he moved to Yemen.
now, if you suck it doesn't matter if your NBA team is located in Shanghai....wala ka pa ring commercials :evillaugh

I don't even know why the heck the Chinese basketball officials and his former ballclub are involved in Yi's signing issues with the Bucks. AFAIK, that can be considered as a violation of Anti-trust laws in the US. Malamang merong kahati sa sweldo si Yi sa PRC.
nangyari ito noon sa FX (2C Engine) namin. will try to remember the diagnosis... pero we just...
