Bryant suspended for striking Ginobili January 30, 2007
NEW YORK (AP) -- Kobe Bryant was suspended one game without pay by the NBA on Tuesday for striking San Antonio's Manu Ginobili in the face.
Bryant was to miss Tuesday's game against the New York Knicks, leaving the Lakers without their leading scorer when they opened an eight-game road trip.
The incident occurred with 2.7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 96-94 overtime loss to the Spurs on Sunday.
Bryant is averaging 28.4 points, 5.5 assists and 5.4 rebounds.

Basketball: Shaq helps police capture hit-and-run driver
MIAMI (AFP) - Basketball star Shaquille O'Neal has helped police capture a hit-and-run driver, hours after his Miami Heat teammates had lost in Chicago without him.
"Shaq" and bodyguard Jerome Crawford were just back from Chicago, where the Bulls edged the defending National Basketball Association champions 100-97. O'Neal did not play after two games back following a long knee surgery absence.
O'Neal, a reserve Miami Beach police officer, was outside Crawford's home in Coconut Grove unloading luggage at about 4 in the morning when a car driven by 18-year-old Emmnueo Cibrin veered into O'Neal's parked 2007 Cadillac.
O'Neal and his bodyguard leaped into the damaged vehicle and trailed the teen for about five minutes before catching up with him and passenger Junior Rondon, who told the Miami Herald they were afraid to stop.
"He was going to stop, but then we saw the Escalade chasing us," Rondon said. "We got scared and kept driving."
Rondon said he was stunned to see O'Neal, a 7-foot-1 center who led the Heat to the team's first NBA crown last June, step from the vehicle.
"I couldn't believe that," Rondon said. "Of all the people. I mean, damn."
"He told us to shut up. 'He said, 'I don't want to talk to you right now.'"
O'Neal, 34, waved over a nearby police officer, Rondon said, and police cited Cibrin for leaving the scene of an accident.
O'Neal was made a police officer in December of 2005, three months after helping officers capture a man accused of a hate crime.
Last June, while O'Neal was napping before game five of the NBA Finals, a man who had been abducted in Miami Beach was dropped in front of O'Neal's home and buzzed the NBA star's house, prompting "Shaq" to call police who later arrested two men in connection with the incident.
Last September, O'Neal was part of a botched police raid in Virginia, where he is also a reserve deputy. Police burst into the home of a suspected ****ographer only to learn they had the wrong address
