Understandable naman reason ni Shaq, he seems to break down every season, KG has won a couple of Gold Medals and he has a lot of milleage on those wheels maybe he's focusing more on Minnasota basketball instead of USA basketball, si Ben Wallace just signed a 60M deal with the Bulls, there might be a games played clause and Wallace doesn't want to injure himself.
Serbia and Montenegro has some marquee names missing in their lineup also.

August 24th, 2006 05:06 PM #6242kaya nga after 2008 for sure tamad na rin sila LBJ and co. to play...
pero yung mga euro players ganun pa rin ang style nila which is effective within the FIBA rules...
saka napansin yo identical ang mga euro players they can all shoot, rebound, dribble, move without the ball, etc etc...naalala ko nga nung early 90s yung team ng croatia everyone is a Toni Kukoc

ganon training nila sa Europe. From a young age, naka program na yan sa utak nila, how to pass, dribble and shoot the right way, no agents, no marketing bruhaha none of those extra curicular stuff just basketball... ganon din sa China look at their basketball program now, its ages above Philippine basketball.

sayang si amare, the 2 line-up coack K is using is a bit undersized on power forward / center. he would definitely improve the team's rebounding and interior defense.

Team USA will face their toughest games in the semis pa siguro when they go up against Spain or Argentina. Coack K's tactics are very tentative during the game against Italy. Good thing Melo was hot, and if he's cold...ther's still Wade, CP and LBJ to go to. Joe Johnson is vital also.
One suggestion in future USA Basketball tourneys: do away with Jamison and Miller. Get Amare and Morrison in there.

besides the fact that they declined, i tinks medyo sinadya nila yun. the game plan was to match up and adapt to the international game, versus trying to make their opponents play their game. for example, in Athens we got killed from outside and by fluid passing offenses. Shaq can't help block shots if they are going up from 25 feet away. Ben is a great inside/outside defender but is a total liability to a motion offense.
that's why they picked good shooting big men like Brad Miller, Morrison and Antawn Jamison. it's also why you see perimeter defense specialists like Battier and Bowen in the pool (guys who don't even make the AS team).
with Colangelo and D'Antoni on the team, it's no accident this team looks a lot like the Phoenix Suns, which are themselves modeled after Mike D'Antoni's successful Euro teams.
btw, i do agree that KG and Duncan would have been good fits for this team.
