IT'S OFFICIAL - RODMAN SIGNS!
Date: 26-01-2006
Written by: BBL
Genesis Brighton Bears have confirmed the signing of 5 time NBA Champion legend Dennis Rodman in a one-game deal. 44 year-old Rodman, who on Wednesday was evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother show, will face Guildford Heat at the Burgess Hill Triangle on Saturday - call 01273 697400 for tickets.
Bears have an option on further matches should the experiment prove successful.
"He's probably the best defensive player the world's seen over the past 20 years," said Bears coach Nick Nurse.
In a 14-year NBA career, Rodman won two championships with Detroit and three with the Chicago Bulls.
"The Bulls team he played on was probably the greatest in basketball history and, after Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, he was the third most important player on that team," said Nurse.
"This will be seen as a publicity stunt and, yes, we want to attract people who might not ordinarily be basketball fans.
"But the main reason for doing this is to give basketball fans the chance to see one of the all-time great players playing here in the BBL."
Rodman led the NBA in rebounding for a record seven straight years and was twice voted the best defensive player in the league.
His last NBA appearance was for Dallas Mavericks in 2000, but since then he has played in several minor leagues, most recently playing in a one-off game in Finland in November.
Genesis Brighton Bears will be in action at the Triangle against Guildford Heat on Saturday. This game is now an 8pm tip-off. The Genesis Brighton Bears ticket hotline can be reached on 01273 697400

Rodman delivers crowd, publicity and win for Brighton

BRIGHTON, England (AP) -- Dennis Rodman justified his pay for a one-game appearance by helping the Brighton Bears of the British Basketball League to a victory before a capacity crowd on Saturday.
Rodman was reportedly paid $44,000 by Brighton's sponsors for the one-game contract, and the former NBA star finished with seven rebounds and four points.
A five-time NBA champion, he signed the deal shortly after being evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother television reality show in Britain.
Brighton beat the Guildford Heat 91-88 and is sixth in the 11-team standings. The game drew 1,500 fans and 60 journalists.

hehehe... IMO Danny Ainge is the better GM. Isaiah Thomas has an eye for talent but is not a top notch GM, tignan mo roster ng NY, full of bloated contracts - Penny Hardaway, Antonio Davis, Malik Rose, Jerome James, Stephon Marbury, Maurice Taylor, Jamaal Crawford, Eddy Curry, Larry Brown
. They have a $100+M lottery team, go figure.

IMO McHale is one of the worse ever, stupid illegal deal with Smith cost them Garnett's title hopes.
