Report: Artest will not go to Sacramento, nixes trade
    January 24, 2006

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - On Tuesday afternoon, the Indiana Pacers reportedly granted troubled forward Ron Artest's request for a trade. Apparently, Artest never told them where he wanted to go.

Dealt to the Sacramento Kings, Artest has let it be known that he does not want to play for them, nullifying a trade for Peja Stojakovic, ESPN reported Tuesday night.

ESPN initially reported that the Pacers and Kings agreed in principle on a swap of Artest for Stojakovic, a three-time All-Star forward.

While the trade was awaiting league approval, ESPN reported that Artest told the Kings he did not want to play for him. As a result, the Kings have backed out of the trade.

Told earlier Tuesday by the Kings to remain at their hotel in Philadelphia, Stojakovic has been instructed to meet the team at the Wachovia Center for its game against the 76ers, a team spokesman said. It is unclear whether he will play.

The 26-year-old Artest was placed on the inactive list by the Pacers in December and subsequently fined $10,000 by the league for publicly requesting a trade.

Pacers president Donnie Walsh said he would try to trade Artest in 10 days. Nearly six weeks later, he finally swung a deal, only to have it undone by the player he was trying to trade.

"As I have said before, until there is a deal completed, we do not have a deal," Walsh said. "We do not have a deal and will not comment on any premature reports regarding a trade involving Ron Artest."

According to the collective bargaining agreement, players are subject to fines and suspensions for refusing to report following a trade. It is conceivable the Pacers could suspend Artest without pay.

Artest averaged 19.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and a league-leading 2.63 steals in 16 games this season.

Stojakovic, a 6-10 shooter who can opt out of his contract after this season, is averaging 16.5 points and shooting a career-worst 40 percent from the field.

Last season, Artest was suspended 75 games - the longest non-drug ban in NBA history - for his central role in the brawl at The Palace of Auburn Hills on November 19, 2004.

After a scuffle on the court with Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace, Artest was hit with a partially full plastic cup thrown from the stands and charged into the seats, attacking a fan he believed threw the cup.

The incident triggered a full-scale riot between players and fans and led to changes in security measures at all NBA arenas. Artest later faced criminal charges but was sentenced to probation and community service.

In the 2002-03 season, Artest was suspended for instigating an altercation with Miami Heat coach Pat Riley and fined and suspended for smashing a TV camera after a game at New York. He also got into a shoving match with a Pacers official after a postseason loss.

he should be ban for life...

Let's hope T-Mac is not one of them, and that he can return pain free -- even if that doesn't happen this season.

    - All may not be lost for Houston, however. Anyone remember the 1996-97 San Antonio Spurs. That group was a very good basketball team that lost nearly all of their major pieces to injury, including a star center by the name of David Robinson. The team finished with a dismal record near the basement of the league. So what good could come out of situation like this, you ask? Well, the Spurs drafted some guy named Tim Duncan with the #1 overall pick in the draft. Dude turned out to be a pretty good player.

also yung rockets in the 82-83 season, but some says nagpatalo talaga ang rockets ( hindi pa kasi lottery ang drafts nun) so that they could land (H)AKEEM Olajuwan

Remember, though, before Phil Jackson, Michael was like Allen Iverson. Everyone knew he was great, but he had no rings to show for it. His previous coach had just one philosophy: "Give the ball to Michael and get out of the f*cking way!". It was a long time before Jordan tasted success.

Kobe has Phil now, but Phil hasn't been able to build a team around him. Seeing Kobe now, he isn't as selfish as he used to be, but the ball naturally comes to him because his teammates can't produce. What he does do is inspire them on the defensive and hustle end... but they're still throwing up bricks.

Whereas with Jordan, he always had a good back-up cast. Scottie was an all-star playing second fiddle to Jordan... hell, everyone did.

During the Shaq era, Kobe was overshadowed by Shaq's size and dominance. A team built around Shaq didn't need a Kobe. It wasn't fair to him actually... and I was surprised when it was Shaq and not Kobe who left, as the Lakers was Shaq.

Give Kobe a decent number two man and a few more shooters, and they could possibly, just possibly, go all the way to the finals.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
