... technically, being a ball hog means you're shooting the ball constantly, and missing most of it even if there are guys who can make a better shot selection and the team loses..

Now if you're shooting a lot simply because it wins you ballgames and because the so-called "talents" around you are busts, then it makes more sense to win a ballgame than to simply "share the stats", doesn't it?

well true... All Superstars are so-called "Ball Hogs", they're so good and so talented that they need to take lots of shots for their them to have a chance of winning. More often than not they'll shoot a good %. Even Lebron James got criticized for not taking the game winning shot when he had the chance. Buttomline, thats what superstars get paid big money to do. Teams like Detroit are very rare, where there is no superstar but 5 very good players in the starting unit.

Kobe literally carried the Lakers on this game, scoring more than half of the teams points, and crucial points, thats the thing about this 80pt game that stands out. Its not like him padding his stats in a blowout game.

well.. the last 15-20 points were a bit forced already... but still.. it didnt take him 30 shots to get it anyway.. so still better than devean george or kwame taking them...

I still have to see Kobe score 40 or more points this season against a great (defensive) team like the Pistons. MJ scored 63 in a PLAYOFF game against no less than the great 80s Celtics team of Larry Bird (remember the "God disguised as Michael Jordan" quote?) He also scored 61 points (I think) once against Detroit (the Bad Boys composed of Isiah, Laimbeer, Dumars, Rodman etc). These when the Celts and Pistons were two of the best teams in basketball at that time
