i agree with the writer. it might seem to some that the Bulls are only trying to protect themselves before offering a guaranteed megabucks contract, but there are so many legal, ethical and moral difficulties with this case.

it's a dangerous precedent. for example, i hire operations personnel...what if in the future i were allowed to have people tested for a disposition for alcoholism or depression before making them a job offer? even though they might never have touched a drink or drug in their entire life?

what about insurance companies? from my family history, i am guessing that my dna test would show a predisposition to diabetes, heart disease, athsma, cancer and alzheimer's disease. would anyone ever offer me medical or life insurance for a reasonable rate?

Suns' Stoudemire to undergo knee surgery Tuesday

PHOENIX -- Amare Stoudemire will undergo diagnostic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday to determine what is causing the soreness that has bothered the Phoenix Suns All-Star in recent months.

The arthroscopic operation will be conducted by team physician Tom Carter, the Suns announced on Monday.

Stoudemire, who signed a five-year, $73 million contract extension a week ago, sat out the final two days of training camp in Tucson because of the injury to the knee's articulate cartilage. He received opinions from three specialists before deciding to have the surgery.

If no serious damage is detected, Stoudemire probably will be out three to four weeks, coach Mike D'Antoni told The Associated Press. Then, it will be only a matter of getting back in shape.

"Hey, the guy's an unbelievable talent," D'Antoni said. "In about an hour and a half he'll be in shape and ready to go."

Stoudemire will miss the entire preseason, which begins at Seattle on Friday night. The Suns open their regular season Nov. 1 at home against Dallas.

D'Antoni acknowledged that hearing the words surgery and Stoudemire in the same sentence "sends shivers up everybody's spine."

"But he's young and he's healthy and hopefully everything will be fine," the coach said.

Suns president Bryan Colangelo declined to comment on Stoudemire's status. The Suns wrapped up training camp on Sunday and had Monday off. They will resume workouts on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old power forward was a dominant force playing out of position at center for a Suns team that won an NBA-best 62 games last season, his third in the NBA. He averaged 37 points against Tim Duncan when the Suns were eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals.

The soreness had bothered Stoudemire during the summer, and he worked out sparingly in Tucson. His last practice was Friday morning.

The No. 9 pick in the 2002 draft, Stoudemire won the Rookie of the Year award over Yao Ming in 2002-03 and has improved each season. He was fifth in the NBA in scoring last season at 26 points per game. He averaged just under 30 in the playoffs.

D'Antoni said Stoudemire's absence could have a silver lining because other players will have more opportunities to show their abilities.

"Actually, we can make better judgment on our guys in the rotation," he said, "because we know what Amare's going to do."

Hindi yata on the same page si Paul Pierce and Coach Doc Rivers who's supposedly lobbying hard for Danny Ainge to trade Pierce. Doc Rivers wants an up-tempo running kind of offense. Pierce is more of a one-on-one player who can create shots for himself and his teamates in a half-court set.

Rumors have it that there are discussions for Pierce to be traded to the Clippers for Corey Maggette, plus some role players tossed in.

While I admire Boston for its youth movement, Pierce is at the peak of his talents and is hitting his prime. Where would the Celtics get their offense? Maggette? He's prolific but not yet the clutch player that Pierce is, especially during the playoffs and there's nothing to indicate that Maggette will be that kind of player. 2nd year forward Al Jefferson is getting better but is not ready to carry a team on his back. Gerald Green, widely touted to be the second coming of Tract McGrady, has yet to learn the NBA game and is years away from contributing.

Actually Maggette would fit in Doc Rivers' running game more than Pierce, besides the Celtics are thinking of the future not the present so trading Pierce for a young up and comming star makes sense, now Pierce in a Clippers uniform would be interesting, they already have Sam I Am and Mobley and also Elton Brand, would there be enough balls for another one-on-one player?

Well, Pierce would make the LAC playoff contenders supposing that a line-up with The Truth, Sam-I-Am, Elton Brand and Cuttino Mobley will jell. Its highly doubtful, though considering that Pierce has been "the man" for awhile in Boston and it would be tough for him to take a backseat now.
