Significant progress made in NBA labor talks
June 17, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- Significant progress was reported Friday in NBA labor talks after the sides met for more than 11 hours.
Commissioner David Stern, union director Billy Hunter and several owners and players met at a Manhattan hotel, the first substantive talks in weeks on a new labor agreement to replace the seven-year deal expiring June 30.
``We made significant progress today and tonight,'' deputy commissioner Russ Granik said. ``We will convene again in small groups over the course of the weekend and will reconvene the larger group on Tuesday morning.''

The talks began late Friday morning and lasted past 10 p.m. EDT. Neither side released details of what was discussed.
No meetings had been held since June 1, and the past two weeks have been marked by public posturing from both sides, but the statement from Granik represented the most positive language the league has used during the current negotiations.
Among the major issues the sides were trying to resolve were a proposed age limit of 19 for rookies, a tougher drug-testing program and the maximum length of long-term contracts.
Owners were known to be seeking several other changes, including a new luxury tax (dubbed a ``supertax'') for the highest spending teams, reductions in the size of annual salary increases in long-term contracts, a shortened rookie wage scale and adjustments to the so-called trigger percentages that activate the escrow and luxury taxes designed to curtail spending on player salaries.
``We took some positive steps forward today. There will be some follow-up this weekend, and we'll reconvene Tuesday,'' Hunter said in a statement.
The meeting also was attended by attorneys and staff members from the league and union offices, players Michael Curry, Antonio Davis and Pat Garrity, and ownership representatives Wyc Grousbeck of Boston, Steve Mills of New York, Les Alexander of Houston and Lewis Katz of New Jersey.

It was a sad loss for the Pistons. I think it was Rip Hamilton's fault. He should have passed the ball instead to the wide open Prince or to Chauncey Billups. Hamilton is only a good set-up shooter and not a slasher nor great dribbler. Damn!

time down to 5.8 secs there is still a chance of winning it but the Spurs (coach Popovich) read the play of the Pistons (coach Brown) that's why Chuncey was denied of the ball... sorry loss indeed... the student come out the winner to his mentor
Parang tinatamad pa si Duncan….
After a slump performance at the line, Duncan will emerge as one of the contender for MVP Finals; after all he’s not an MVP once for nothing… feel ko lang there will be no Game 7.... Good luck Pistons... :-)
