Red Bull to trade Villanueva to Purefoods?

MANILA, Philippines – Enrico Villanueva, one of the strongest pure centers in the PBA, is said to be at the center of a rumoured trade, with unconfirmed reports yesterday saying he is on the verge of being sent to one of the teams under the San Miguel umbrella.

Red Bull officials have clammed up on the rumors, but a source close to the team said the Bulls are looking to deal the 6-foot-6 former Ateneo ace to Purefoods, which has long been in need of a legitimate center.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that any possible deal would involve cash considerations.

But a Villanueva deal will run through a wall of complications.

Commissioner Noli Eala reminded the Inquirer in an interview yesterday that the league has put in place a scheme preventing one-sided deals.

The commissioner’s office has asked teams to draw up a restricted list of three players who can only be traded for players on the same list of other teams. That means any Villanueva trade to Purefoods will include either reigning MVP James Yap or former Red Bull standout Kerby Raymundo, both cornerstones of the Giants’ franchise.

Eala said that the only way for Red Bull to work around the restricted list is if the team petitions the league to have Villanueva relegated to the regular list of players

daming rumors like this since early last week. another version is that together w/ rico, larry f. was to be traded to the beermen directly for cablay, adriano, et al. as far as i'm concerned sana di matuloy. sa tingin ko nag dip lang naman performance ni enrico kasi twice a day ang practice niya w/ his mother team and w/ the national team.
