i read somewhere na sa press release din sa mga pahayagan, even before the deadline for application for the draft... somebody was advising him na sa Smart Gilas na muna at huwag na muna mag apply for PBA draft.. and yet he did...

tapos ngayon sasabihin nya na gusto nya sa Smart Gilas? granted that the trial period na naranasan nya was the FIBA Asia (which was run by the PBA) and he didn't like what he saw.. huli na ang lahat.. nagpadraft na sya eh...
yun naman talaga ang gagawin niya to sit out, it means hinde siya pwedeng maglaro sa ibang PBA teams but not Smart gilas.

he is not a property of PBA yet, wala pa siyang contract with any PBA teams.

PBA can't stop him from playing for other teams that doesn't belong in the PBA.

he joined the draft para makasali siya sa powerade PBA team yun ang condition ng PBA.

kung mas malaki ang offer sa Smart gilas so be it! karapatan niya yun kung saan tingin niya mas magandang offer. sour graping lang ang BK and PBA.

yun pag join sa draft sinasabi mo lang na available ka, but not necessarily na maglalaro ka na sa team ang draft saiyo. kaya nga meron contract eh. not until mag sign ka hinde ka pa kasama sa PBA.

paano yun mga nag join ng draft pero walang kumuha? so property pa rin sila ng PBA. and BK can't force Aguilar to sign any contract kung ayaw talaga niya.

paano rin yun mga players na na draft pero hinde binigyan ng contract ng team. can they also force the team who drafted them to give them contract?

pero medyo me halong deception talaga yung pag sali nya sa draft, then sit-out sya at sa ibang league lalaro...

Tongue-lashing sparked Aguilar turnaround?

MANILA, Philippines - A locker room incident during the Fiba Asia tournament in Tianjin China may have soured relations between Japeth Aguilar and national coach and Burger King mentor Yeng Guiao.

Aguilar’s US-based father Peter said reports about the dressing down Aguilar received from Guiao after a game could have been a reason why his son decided not to sign up with Burger King and play under Guiao.

“At first I was really elated when he was picked by Burger King,” Peter told the Inquirer via an overseas phone call from his Chicago home. “But after Tianjin, he called me up and told me about his decision to continue his stint as a national team member.”

According to reports, Guiao was unhappy with Japeth’s showing in Tianjin and told him that he could’ve learned more had he stayed at Ateneo under coach Norman Black instead of playing for US NCAA squad Western Kentucky.

“How can we convince him to play in the PBA if he won’t be happy with Burger King after what happened?” said the older Aguilar.

Guiao had earlier owned up to giving several players a tongue-lashing in Tianjin after they failed to live up to expectations.

At the same time, the elder Aguilar denied instructing the cager’s guardian to have the 6-foot-9 beanpole sign up with Smart Gilas.

Sports columnist Ronnie Nathanielsz, Aguilar’s guardian, was reported to have said that he received instructions from Aguilar’s parents to sign the cager up with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, which is handling the Smart Gilas program.

"It’s all Japeth’s decision,” said Peter.

Guiao: Caidic can still be RP 5’s 'special triggerman'

Coach Yeng Guiao’s much-awaited partnership with Allan Caidic turned out memorable it overshadowed the one-sided outcome of the game between our very own PBA Stars and the NBA Generations.

But Friday night was indeed a reality check for the fiery mentor, who waited 19 years before finally fulfilling his wish of handling the player called as “The Triggerman."

Five three-pointers in the first quarter were enough to convince Guiao that Caidic could still possibly play a special role in his all-pro national team if it’s given another shot at major Asian tournaments.

Of course, the decision would have to come from Caidic himself.

“Definitely, he has the talent," said Guiao, referring to the 45-year-old, 1990 PBA Most Valuable Player known for his shooting prowess.

Puwede pa talaga siya sa RP team because a player of his caliber was the one we lacked in the FIBA Asia Championship," said Guiao, whose team badly missed a consistent shooter and wound up eighth in the Asian tilt.

“Of course, the biggest question there is kung willing ba siya na maglaro? If yes, he can play a special purpose for the team," added Guiao, who coached Caidic and the PBA selection in an 86-109 losing effort against the NBA Generations of legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at the Araneta Coliseum Friday night.

That special purpose Guiao was referring to would have Caidic playing the role as the “designated hitter" for a few minutes, when the team badly needs to score treys.

In the PBA, such role was given to hotshot Roel Gomez by Alaska coach Tim Cone during the then Milkmen’s successful campaign in the 1990s. The multi-titled bench tactician would insert Gomez in the game in the dying seconds to, well, shoot his long bombs.

Powerade-Pilipinas mentor Guaio said Caidic still fits the bill today with his excellent marksmanship.

Caidic retired at the end of the 1999 season as the record-holder for three-pointers in a single game with 17 as well as most points by an individual in a game with 79. During the PBA Selection’s first and only practice session, he buried 10 triples, giving Guiao an impression that his number could still be called anytime. - GMANews.TV

Yung expectations kay Ritualo noon, wala rin.

Tigers-Aces ushers in PBA pre-season
(The Philippine Star) Updated September 16, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Ten pre-season games, highlighted by simultaneous matches in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan and Concepcion, Tarlac, get the ball rolling for the 35th year of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The annual exhibition series held prior to the start of the season and involving all 10 teams, kicks off on Sept. 25 at the Astrodome when the rebuilt Coca-Cola Tigers test the mettle of last year’s Philippine Cup runner-up Alaska Aces in the lone Friday game set at 6 p.m.

The Tigers are expected to parade new recruits Ken Bono, Larry Rodriguez, Jojo Duncil and the year’s No. 3 overall pick in Chris Ross against the solid, veteran rotation of the Aces bannered by former league MVP Willie Miller, L.A. Tenorio, Joe DeVance and Sonny Thoss.

The following day, the league takes its act to the provinces as Barangay Ginebra and defending Fiesta Cup champion San Miguel clash in Pangasinan in a rematch of last year’s season-ending Finals.

The 4 p.m. match will see for the first time Arwind Santos and Denok Miranda suiting up for the Beermen following their off-season acquisition from Burger King and Sta. Lucia, respectively.

The Kings, on the other hand, are set to flaunt new faces Enrico Villanueva, Rich Alvarez, Paolo Bugia and Celino Cruz. The pre-season games may also be used by coach Jong Uichcio as perfect opportunity to slowly get back Mark Caguioa in shape after the prolific Ginebra scorer sat out the entire 34th season owing to an injury.

On the same time and date as the Ginebra-San Miguel game is the clash between Burger King and Purefoods in Tarlac. The Giants will have in their arsenal No. 2 draft pick Rico Maierhofer and returnee Marc Pingris and Paul Artadi.

On Sept. 28, four other teams make their respective debuts in the pre-season games. Barako Bull takes on Rain or Shine at Arellano University ( 2 p.m), while a few hours later, defending All-Filipino champion Talk ‘N Text meets Sta. Lucia at Lyceum University.
