Free agent signings have slowed down after the first few days. Looks like lots of teams are being cautious and are waiting on 2019 instead where the salary cap is higher and more marquee players are going to be available.

Melo is available.

Although at this stage of his career, can he still play SF?

I doubt if he can play sf. Slow, unwilling.
Rockets is not a fit for him either because of iso ball.
Between harden, cp3, and gordon, rockets have enough firepower already.

Heck, no elite team can fit melo perfectly on their current schemes.

Maybe. But heat's payroll is on the upper side already.

Melo's ego is what keeping him from coming off the bench. He can dominate every second unit around the league with his scoring abilities. He can still be elite but his ego is keeping him from being one.
