 i have to take back a few things I said:
    1) about "made in Taiwan being dirty words"...the frame is actually made by Giant in Taiwan. I ran a check on the Giant int'l website and learned a lot about that company, including several awards earned by their Taiwan plant. and when you talk to the Extreme owners and some of the hard-core customers I met there, they were emphatic about Taiwan quality being very high for certain US & European based brands. i studied the frame and yes, they were right! pulidong-pulido! so at least for the frame and the Giant components in the bike, i'm not concerned about it being made in Taiwan anymore, even the kenda exteriors pero yung mga Shimano parts niya, made in japan pa rin

    2) "bike rack on the roof of a pickup looking somewhat stupid"...i did get one in the end :D dahil it doesn't have to be used everytime i load the bike, only pag may second bike akong dala (which i didn't know till my wife asked for a bike!). a receiver-based carrier is too expensive (12-25K), and a bed-based carrier means more holes in the bed whether DIY or a Thule (3k+). the new more affordable roof carrier of thule clinched it for me!

of course i agree with you that the man behind the machine is the most important factor!

those pics were awesome! and certainly challenging! mukhang enjoy na enjoy kayo ha! both on foot and in your 4x4s... kaya lang mukhang masyadong mainit para sa biking, hindi kaya? parang bigla akong nakaisip ng Baguio at Mt. Province, bakit kaya?

we need to get us some rides together so we could plan for these XC trips. I would also like to organize a SUbic trip for us kasi meron kami 1 room/month FREE sa Subic. We could use that. Sarap mag bike dun.

na stuck na kasi sa atin na sub-standard ang "Made in Taiwan"
lalo na nung time 80's BMX era, i remember buying pairs of brakes, brake pads, levers kasi nga made in taiwan medyo marupok.

but now it s a different ballgame, everything is made in taiwan!
may ipo so2 something na yata ang taiwan eh,

gulliver ganda talaga ng bike niyo! ilang beses ko titignan he..he

I really dont understand why bike racks are so expensive... its hard to justify... its even better to buy another bike!... like if Thule is 25T... magandang 2nd bike na yan! =)

You should keep this thread going para ganado lahat!... in fact dahan dahan ko na nilalabas ulit yun bike ko!... puno na ng alikabok!... tinitingnan ko palang bike ko, pagod na ako!

I just hope ganado pa lahat when I come back to Manila... wala na kasi yun dati kong grupo eh!

oo nga, mahal ng mga Thule bike carriers! except for the one i got (http://www.pbase.com/image/17689339) and the other model (good for 2 frames) that's styled for in-van or on-a-pickup-bed carry (kimpoy & BlackMagic check it out) for 3k din. only if you don't mind drilling two holes on the floor tho. may cheaper alternatives ata ang Carryboy but very limited models lang.

cta2 you're back in jan next year di ba? hehehe, will be a challenge to keep this thread alive but am optimistic it will still be here when you get back. it's open-ended kasi kaya i think we can talk about anything related to mtbs here (sana ok lang sa mga mabait na moderators natin )

BlackMagic ok din pix mo, but couldn't tell which of those fit-looking guys was you... kimpOy mukhang kailangan tayo mag double-time dude hahahaha....sa end ko lost 3 pounds na! :D

kennon_road nice bike! but if porsche means anything, it will likely be too expensive for me!

Mountain Biking...freespirited, and not-so-complicated fun
