Naisip ko lang, why are Filipinos so obsessed over a sport where we have a genetic disadvantage?
Maraming ibang sport na hindi kailangan ng height, but basketball isn't one of them. An ordinary 7-footer (with a bit of practice) can already beat our best local talent. The PBA is all filled with imports (because again, Filipinos naturally suck at basketball compared to blacks or other bigger races).
In lower levels of play (i.e. kanto games, after-office inter-department games), skill level can offset height advantages. But in a competition as intense as FIBA, everyone's skill level is so high that your physical build already makes a big difference since lahat kayo magaling na.

By naturally suck, I'm again referring to the fact that we are at a genetic disadvantage.
When it comes to work ethic, determination, and perhaps even agility, we can go toe-to-toe with any other nation.
But in a country where being 6'7 already makes you a center, what are the odds that you can grab a rebound over a 7-footer with the same skill level but longer reach, bigger muscles, and a higher vertical leap?
Unlike in F1 racing where your height isn't a game-changing factor (in fact, smaller is more advantageous because of weight savings), basketball is terribly dependent on your size.

Hindi ko din alam but yan national sport natin but...
We may have generic disadvantage but that alone does not prevent "us" from enjoying "that" sport. Kanya-kanyang trip lang yan. Hindi naman bawal diba. So I hope hindi ka naman galit or bitter about it.
Now you make it sound that we should focus on sports that can actually win us olympic/world medals, and you're right there as well. I think boxing and the like sports nga naman talaga tutukan nang gov't na punduhan para maka-medalya tayo sa highest levels of competition. Pero since basketball nag national sport natin, siyempre mga pulitiko at tao eh yan parin priority na tutukan kasi yan ang popular eh. Siguro kapag iba na hilig nanag karamihan nang pinoy, puwede na F1.

Di naman ako bitter about it bro. I'm not saying we should shy away from loving basketball - part na yan ng culture natin. I enjoy a good game of basketball as much as the next guy does. Sa level nating karaniwang tao, enjoyable yan and since ang kalaban natin kapwa pinoy lang din naman na equally pandak, maganda yung level ng competition. But on a global level, I think it's silly to believe that we can even contend with other countries.
I guess nasasayangan lang ako sa pera and effort na binibigay sa basketball when we can never be good at it (as a nation), but since it's what everyone likes, things aren't likely to change anytime soon.

Bilog ang bola. We are entertained by these. Wala namang masamang sumubok. Mahirap ata magshift ng interest. You like cars tapos ishishift mo sa iba? Hirap di ba..

Then we should drop the pa humble effect na ok lang mag qualify and not expecting to win. I think that's a loser's mentality. Impossible naman na hinde nag imaging sila chot na makapasok sa second round and so on.
Wala naman sigurong sasali sa kahit na anong tournament na ayaw manalo.
If their drama na don't expect us to win eh mabuti pa Huwag na sumali sa fiba world.
