thirty years ago, the normal upper limit was 120.
a few years after, they lowered it to 110.
now, the current upper limit of normal is 100...

i go to buffets, binge eating at partys, drinking beer or whiskey occasionally. But when i do all that i make sure i supplement my exercise with a diabetic drug (metformin) and try to exercise more.
a balance of food intake and exercise. a type of abnormal healthy lifestyle. hahaha
Exercise is really the key for type II diabetic in my experience.

This is before covid lockdown thou.
Since lockdown, the reduced exercise had increased my drug intake but has mainly kept my sugar levels in the upper range of the fbs test range.
I'm confused, you are prediabetic but you are taking meds now?

what is ale's objective in taking metformin? i do not know.
but some folks take metformin, as an aid to weight control.
    would i bless the practice?
fortunately... hindi ko linya yan. i don't have to answer.

Why did they lower down the threshold?

in 2003, the writers wrote that normal level is less than 110.
others wrote that 102 is already pre-diabetes.

exactly how these writers came up with those numbers, i haven't been able to find out yet.
'hirap kasi sa ibang online sources, they require a little plastic card's numbers... which i do not want to go into agreement with them over.
    heh heh.

the ff. is a simplistic explanation, as i know there are other important factors to consider, but...

one theory about diabetes, is that we are all born with our personal specific amount of lifetime insulin production.
the less we use it early in life, the more it will be available later on in life.
maneuvers and medications that diminish insulin use now, translates to more available insulin later on.

some folks use diabetes medication, not for diabetes, but for weight and figure control.

Had my first serious (aka hilong talilong) high blood episode during the ECQ despite my regular cardio (treadmill and bike trainer).
Home glucose meter also showed 120s pre-diabetic level (fasting).

So wifey and I overcame our phobia of a hospital and went for a blood chem.

    The surprise........low FBS (78 mg/dL) BUT HBA1C is 5.9% confirming my pre-diabetic status.

Might go back to dirty keto but my normally high choleterol is making me think twice.

Ok Doc i'm not gonna debate with a doctor

sa pagkaalam ko lang metformin increases insulin sensitivity so kung insulin resistant ka (pre-diabetic) that medicine helps

ung konte ang insulin production may ibang gamot para diyan diba?

mga insulin secretagogue (sulfonylureas and glinides)

    but that's for full-blown diabetes
