So far, nothing has been proven. It's mostly the fringe pushing against the sweeteners.

You should be more worried about things that are proven carcinogenic that are in softdrinks. Namely the caramel food coloring.... which exists in certain batches of softdrinks from certain plants in the United States.

However strong the lobby of a manufacturer is... if it has possession of research or data that what it sells is carcinogenic, it's in the company's best interest to drop the ingredient, otherwise it can suffer a public relations backlash.

So far, Triclosan has been proven to have some hormonal effects in animals. Which means it's worth looking into whether the mechanism is the same in humans. We need to find out if it is, because, in the past, studies that have shown stuff like saccharin as carcinogenic have not been applicable to humans.

Because we're not rats. There are metabolic processes that are different for humans.

Wouldn't put much in EU bans. EU is at the forefront of holistic hysteria... and they've had some stupid bans in the past:

EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration - Telegraph

EU to ban olive oil jugs from restaurants - Telegraph

    -

That said... since triclosan is anti-microbial (hence, can hasten the development of antibiotic resistance of bacteria in the environment... and/or disrupt the balance of bacterial fauna), AND persistent, AND can possibly form chloroform gas when mixed in chlorinated water (when both elements meet in sewage treatment plants), there is some cause to regulate its use.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

cancer? what cancer? there's no mention of cancer in the aforementioned article..

and that silicone thing..? as i remember, the strange thing with that, was that the original experiment "proving its ill effects" could never be duplicated..
