Realistic? Realistic is a relative word. For civilian flight sims, X-Plane 9 "feels" the most realistic. MS Flight Simulator X isn't the most realistic unless you buy for-pay add on aircraft. But, it's more fun than X-Plane 9 and it gives an adequate enough "feel" of realism.
For modern combat sims....... I'd say Falcon 4.0: Allied Force is the most realistic. Lock On: Modern Air Combat would be a distant second.
As for graphics........ It's hard to pick which one. I do favor FSX because of of the freeware utility, Tile Proxy which uses Google Earth/Yahoo Maps/etc for terrain.BUt, X-Plane 9 isn't bad. You've seen the screenshots I posted. The X-Plane 9 terrain on the screenshot is the default terrain.

^^Jun, is that your new gaming rig? what GPU did you install? I'm wondering how good/or less performance is when run with DX10 and Vista.

Nope. This is the same rig I assembled back in summer of 2005. AMD X2 4200+/2gb ram. The only difference now is I replaced the ATI X800XL with an nVidia 8600GT (a freebie from a friend) which is somewhat equal to the X800XL in most games but way better in FSX and X-Plane 9.
I have to make some compromises such as No Traffic and No Scenery Shadows. But, everything else is maxed or almost maxed out.
I don't need absolutely 24 frames per second all the time although it nice to have it. At high altitude, even 10-15 fps is sufficient to give the illusion of airborne flight. I get around 20-35 fps which is perfectly fine with me.
As for a new pc, I was supposed to assemble one last Christmas. But, the wife hasn't given the go-ahead plus all my flight sim games (LOMAC, Falcon 4: Allied Force, Pacific Fighters/IL-2, and X-Plane 9 all run fine with the current rig. It's FSX that hogs the most resources. Even a quadcore with a good video card will be stressed with all of FSX's settings maxed out.
Add:
With Vista and Win 7 Beta, FSX ran fine. But, Tile Proxy was quirky with those two OSes. So, I went back to XP.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; April 28th, 2009 at 05:43 AM.
