I have a beater watch. The one I use when bicycling or doing household chores.

It's cheap, maybe disposable. But not fake. There lies the difference.

...so the mall mogul gives his son a fake rolex, "for practice"...
"he can buy a real one on his own, in a few years".

My parents bought me an orig seiko and a fake one before (forgot the models) and they would let me use the fake one on a daily basis as they knew i would just damage it due to carelessness back then and just use the orig one on during normal lakad.

Hehe, I also don't get what all the fuss about is about these fake watches.

My uncle who is rich but not crazy rich can afford to buy several authentic luxury watches but he still buys them knockoffs back then when they were availbale only in Taiwan.

My ninang does the same with clothes, as everybody knows she is rich, she does not have any hang ups with wearing clothes from Divisoria.

Because it doesn't make sense if one can afford to buy original.

If for beater purposes why not just buy low to mid range price branded original.

industry folks say that fake watches are a theft of intellectual property.

    beater watches. timex and casio.
although, casio went all-out in some of its models, price-wise.
    heh heh.

my pamangkin is merchant marine. he says naka-sira siya ng two seikos in the space of a year. but his current g-shock is several years now and still going strong.

Hmm... is he really a mall mogul or just a Greenhills tiangge stall owner?
And the “fauxlex” is just letting the son practice his skills on how he could pass it off as a real “rolex”.

it was just an example, po.
one may replace "mall mogul" with the more generic "dad with deep pockets".
    heh heh.

haha with the price of a fake rolex he can get the son a decent watch already. but if the dad gives a fake seiko to his kid as everyday watch, its likely the dad is not as well off as the mall mogul.

There's no other reason but to pass it off as original.
