It's a cost savings for the school and the students in the long run. Why print out millions upon millions of identical throwaway textbooks that students will have to lug around everywhere they go when you can just use tablets?
Considering this for our High School. We're already planning to use this for some of our remote programs.

I rarely ever use my laptop anymore since I got my Ipad2 and pocket mobile router. I read, surf, play (Infinity Blade II- I beat the God King no cheats, no buying gold from in-app store=), monitor work stuff and yes, pray, using my Ipad (Divine Office App)- amazing device, that!
Still I prefer reading ebooks in my Kindle, not Ipad. Because of E-ink, amazon.com will have my money until I die, hehe
