if it's a SME, you can also take a look at SAP Business One (aka SAP Lite).

Both have good and bad points.

Mahalaga is to get your businesses processes straight and to get good implementation partners / consultants. This project is millions of pesos in investment its an expensive failure if it does fail.

If you can leverage existing vendor relationship, e.g. you have Oracle products now, might be a good deal to go with Oracle. Of course if you think about best-of-breed ERP, SAP may have the edge now.

Get in touch with some account managers from both, get demos going, and write up a good RFP.

Since i work in the IT department for a local snackfood manufacturing firm, i have already evaluated SAP (Business One and mySAP) and Oracle Apps last year. In terms of functionality, they are almost the same except that SAP has packaged solutions that would work for certain industries. In terms of license costs, SAP Business One and Oracle Apps would roughly be in the same area with mySAP costing around twice as much.
If price is no object, the important thing is the implementation partner. SAP and Oracle Apps only sell the licenses. It is the implementation partner that does the actual implementation, configuration, rollout and turnover. Look at their past implementations and conduct due dilligence on them.

how long do you have before you give your recommendation or do your final presentation?

Sometimes, if there is an immediate irresolvable problem, to have a specialist on-site costs an arm and a leg hehe on other instances it may cost all of your limbs

SAP consultants can charge as much as $400 an hour. Not sure about the current Oracle rates.

You can probably get local consultants for much cheaper.

Im no expert here but according to my kumander (she's a certified SAP solutions consultant), SAP is now targetting SMEs because full-blown SAP implementations are hard to come by nowadays. It would help if you can specify what industry you're in, what modules you require and I can help refer you to her company's account manager. At least me options ka. I believe their SAP implementations are R/8 compliant.

Nakow dami na palang reply to thread na to. Nawala ako daming kasing pinagagawa, mostly streamlining ng business processes, system implementation and system audit. Dami kasing nakawan na nangyayari sa kumpanya lately.

Anyway medyo kinukulit ako ng presidente ng corporation to fast track the current rollout ng mga projects para maharap ko na ang acquisition ng either SAP Business One or ORACLE.

First on the schedule for it will be our 2 Retail business unit and a Mall. Basically I will be building an integrated Retail Management System and Leasing, next would be the Realstate business unit of the corporation, then the HR, and last would be the Bank.

The intent is to build our own software/system out of this ERP Solutions. I still have two months before I make a decision.

I hope this will push through...

I have an IT background also and I just went through the process of selecting and ERP solution last year. Each company has their own unique experience regarding ERP selection and implementation. There are a lot of angles to look at it from but what you really have to keep in mind is that ERP selection is just the first step, although it is a big step. Gaya ng sabi rin ng isa sa thread na to, selecting the right implementation partner is also crucial.

Also, try to match the needs of the organization vs the ERP solution you select. Hindi lang silang dalawa ang nasa market. And SAP / Oracle may not necessarily fit all scenarios / organizations.

There was this story I heard somewhere, that the IT heads of this big company chose one of these 2 solutions for their organization, not necessarily because it was the best fit for them, but more on how their own CVs are going to look like after the implementation. Just having SAP or Oracle in their CVs was something....
