dunno dude...di ba nagka crisis nga sa argentina 'coz they tried to regulate the dollar? subsidize ng subsidize ung gobyerno para macontrol ung pag akyat ng dollar, hanggang sa maubusan ng pera. i think we'd run into the same predicament if we tried to do it again.

on the other hand, at least naman me pakinabang ung income tax ko, at hindi lang ginagamit pang good time ng pulitiko

okay yang strike. lahat ng nasa strike, tanggalan ng franchise. hulihin ang mga colorum. ito na ang pagkakataon ng gobyerno.

no to private franchise jeepneys. yes to an efficient mass transport system.
just for the sake of discussion.... kung sakaling naging employees na sila.. it still doesn't stop them from going on strike... since they will be treated as government workers, they would think they should have good benefits din.. papano kung the benefits they will demand will not be sustained by the mass transport operations? price increase sa fares? ganun din ang problema...

Was expecting smooth cruising along Espana on my way to work this morning... but was hampered by traffic. I was a bit stumped as I knew there was a transport strike. Then I saw the protesting students up ahead, almost barging in front of the cars asking for donations to support their ongoing strike on the rising oil prices...

    I was like WTF?!

*sigh* Let's just say I was not the least bit amused by what they were doing...

the good news is that malaki ang labor force natin (with regards to drivers). kung magaling ang manager ng government jeep transpo system (or yung head ng HR/personnel), kung matutunugan niyang may mga hindi happy na drivers, tanggalin na kaagad and hire the next batch of drivers. bilisan na lang ang turnover ng jeepney drivers. kahit weekly basis, dami naman driver dyan e. hindi happy sa trabaho? sisantihin na. palitan kaagad. may driver na hindi efficient? hindi mabait sa pasahero? hindi sumusunod sa batas? nirereklamo ng private motorists? sisantihin. obviously, hindi siya angkop sa trabaho niya. its a disservice to both the driver (kasi hindi match ang skills-set niya with his job) and the company (in this case the governement jeep transpo system). baka mas bagay siya na magtanim ng kamote na lang or magpulot ng basura sa kalsada.

re: benefits and sustainability, ganun naman talaga ang government institution, kadalasan walang sustainability. and IMHO, that will the job of the manager (or CEO), to find a solution to make it not only sustainable but also profitable. daming paraan naman dyan e. reduce overhead, increase efficiency, reduce redundancy.

btw, may jeepney strike ba kahapon? parang wala. kasi puro jeep pa din sa mga kalye na dinaan ko. umaga hanggang gabi.

oh yeah, dagdag: i just realized what wowiesy was trying to post. that the proposed government jeep transpo system (gjts) is not a solution to the jeepney strikes. sorry, i stand (or sit) corrected. mali ang basa ko sa post mo.

you're right. the gjts is not a solution to the jeepney strikes. i just think that this strike is an opportunity the government should not miss. eto na kasi ang opportunity nila na pagtatanggalan ng franchise ang outdated means ng transpo na ito. jeepneys are so inefficient that they benefit no one. they are environmental pollutants for one. more importantly, they are road hazards. what we need in this country is an efficient means of transpo.
