I might try my hand at ATC simulation. I have a friend who's an air traffic controller. He says even the sim can get stressful....

This one is for FSX. Looks like Haneda Airport, Japan. It even has Japanese traffic.

This is the ATC position in FSX multiplayer (the audio isn't*).

    * Boston Tower (Logan International) is mentioned in the audio when the location of the airfield is in England.

The layout is generic whichever airport it is. Here in Launceston, it'd be okay except the real ATC tower is across the runway from where I am.

It just occurred to me. One of the female voices in the Haneda Airport ATC sim sounds just like the automated female voice on the loudspeakers of the real Haneda airport.

I remember getting tired of hearing it endlessly at the ticket/check-in section of the domestic terminal. No real person can speak that much especially when there's two parts to each message. The first is in Nippongo followed by the English translation.

    Some X-Plane 9

With my previous pc, a lot of details were obscured by fog and were quite dark to keep the frame rates up. Now, the detail shows up much better.

I got myself reacquainted with C&C: Generals Zero Hour single player at Hard setting.

I repeatedly kept getting my butt kicked with GLA Campaign Mission 5 which is the final game for that side. Those three Particle cannons were making things miserable for me.

I must have tried at least 10 times to no avail until I remembered to capture the 4 oil wells at the northwestern-most island. Once the funds started rolling in and I had at least four Scudstorms, things got a bit easier.

We just had our first snow. This is about the time I start to wish I was at the Philippines right now. I also finally made it to Level 3 of Crysis at the highest (Delta) difficulty setting. Refreshing.......

I looked in the internet for a walkthough to this level. I got spanked just the same.

Eventually, I found out it's best to capture the 4 oil wells at the northwest corner of the map and build up the AA defense around them. Simplicity itself. It's just a matter of crushing the first Particle cannon repeatedly or outlasting the three if they're already built. Then, it's holding off repeated air and land strikes until I can wipe out the factories and airfields with the Scud Storms.

I consider games $20 or less as being in the bargain bin. Went to Walmart and noticed quite a few nice games in that category: Far Cry 2, GTA 4, Bioshock/Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Medieval: Total War. I decided to buy Sins of a Solar Empire GOTY Edition.

I was hoping to find IL2: 1946 which sellsfor less than $10. But, meh. Sins will do fine.

It's like an ultra-fluid running version of Homeworld 2. Schweet. Very schweet :

I thought about buying Modern Warfare 2 which costs $60. But, the lack of a built-in dedicated server is a big turnoff.

I guess I'll catch up on some games instead. Everytime I upgrade a pc, it's followed by a game-buying streak. This time around is no exception. The $20 bargain bin is chock full of nice games this time around.

For the price of MW2, I guess, I'll load up on:
    Supreme Commander
Bioshock and Elder Scrolls Oblivion combo
    Far Cry 2
    All four* games = $60

Add those to Crysis Maximum Edition and Sins of a Solar Empire I already bought. The long frigid and snowy winter months (through early April next year) should pass by pretty quick.

*GTA 4 is also selling for $20. I'm not too keen about it. But supposedly, it's like Far Cry 2 in Urban USA settings. We'll see.

you should definitely try Bioshock. It's the 2007 GOTY on some gaming sites losing out only to modern warfare 1 due to the lack of multiplayer. That game is genius, unique storyline and great production value. or maybe I like dystopian society stories and steampunk design too much.

I'll probably buy the Bioshock/Oblivion combo next.

I really don't have any big-ticket games in mind til next year when Storms of War: Battle of Britain is released. The online brochures say the clouds will be based on accurate airmass/terrain type meaning they'll be weather accurate.

It's a bold statement which I'll be very interested in verifying, not that it'll stop me from buying the game if they weren't. He He.

The fully functional and dead accurate virtual cockpit alone is enough to get me interested:

Jun, what's your screen size? Is it more than 2000 in width? I'm testing something, hope you have more than the usual widescreen!

Huh? Nah. The highest screen size I use is 1440x900 on a 19" monitor. Sometimes I game on our old 32" lcd tv which has an even lower pc res of 1280x768.

I'm hoping to move up at least a 22" lcd monitor at 1920x1080. With my HD 5770 video card, I wouldn't go any higher for gaming.

Sometimes, I do 2880x900 with dual 19" monitors and even 4320x900 with triple monitors in Windows. It's mostly dual monitors though.

Ah okay, I have a friend using a 19" Dell. The resolution is more than 3000 and I was able to play a lot of games there, nothing new though

Would be very cool to see an actual shot with your dual monitors running a game

I have an image of Far Cry with dual monitor somewhere. But three monitors would be ideal because dual-monitor only will have the gunsight/crosshairs at the side of one monitor.

Stand by while I look for it.
