    Re dead pixels -

Dead or stuck pixels are non-functioning "dots" on your LCD screen. They either remain black or stuck in a particular color (e.g. red).

With typical computer applications (WP, SS, DB, etc.), a single dead pixel can be ignored. But when watching a DVD movie or editing graphics, a single dead pixel in the middle of the screen can be terribly annoying, not to say distracting.

Computer manufacturers (and resellers) have different policies. Dell requires a LCD screen to have a minimum of 6 dead pixels before they will agree to an exchange. Some US resellers have a no dead pixel guarantee.

The advantage of buying retail in the US is that stores are required to accept returns within seven days. Most offer a 30 day money back guarantee. So, you can actually purchase a unit, bring it home, open and test it. If you are not satisfied you can return it.

With mail order, you take your chances since it is more difficult and costly to return the unit.
