    Z-9 Multirole Helicopter

The Zhi-9 (Z-9) multirole army support helicopter, developed by the Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HAMC), is the licensed Chinese copy of the French Eurocopter AS 365N Dauphin II. A total of over 150 examples are currently in service with the PLA in three variants: Army multirole variant Z-9, attack variant WZ-9, and naval variant Z-9C. Harbin is also developing a new twin-engine variant Z-9 H410A with improved performance in high-altitude regions.

    Z-11 Lightweight Utility Helicopter

The Zhi-11 (Z-11) is the lightweight utility helicopter developed by Changhe Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG) based on the French AS 350B Squirrel. Over 40 machines are operated by the PLA’s Army Aviation Corps for training role. A new armed variant WZ-11 first flew in December 2004.

At the 2002 Zhuhai Air Show, Chenghe revealed that it was developing an armed variant of the Z-11 (or possibly Z-11MB1). Known as WZ-11, the helicopter employs a sight mounted on the roof of the cockpit, and has weapon pylons for four HJ-8 anti-tank missiles or four unguided rocket pods.

    WZ-9 Attack Helicopter

The WuZhi-9 (WZ-9) is the attack version of the Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HAMC) Z-9B helicopter, which itself is a licensed copy of the French AS 365N Dauphin-II. The helicopter was introduced in the 1990s, with about 30~40 in service with the PLA Army Aviation Corps. China is currently developing a new dedicated attack helicopter to replace the WZ-9.

    WEAPONS

Fixed weapons include two 23mm cannons. Two weapon pylons can carry four HJ-8E wire-guided anti-tank missiles, or two pods of 57mm or 90mm unguided rockets, or two 12.7 mm gun pods. The helicopter may also be able to carry two TY-90 IR-guided short-range air-to-air missiles (range 6 km).

believe it or not, in a recent exercise several Swedish diesel-electric submarines managed to sneak into the middle of a carrier battle group, simulate torpedo launches, AND sneak out, without being detected.

so a CBG isn't necessarily invulnerable.

Diesel-Electric subs are only usable in shallow waters and for short operations only (great for defending ports & channels).

Their batteries will only last upto around 12 hours only (provided that you don't run at full speed) and afterwards they already need to use the noisy diesel engines to recharge them. In that process, they also need to snorkel for fresh air (although some newer diesel-electric subs have developed more advanced air circulation systems that will allow longer snorkel time intervals).

In this case, if a CBG suspects that a diesel-electric sub is operating in the area they can just deploy further from shore to limit the sub's effectiveness.

The Los Angeles class of the USN is one of the best ASW (anti-submarine warfare) / CBG-escort submarines around. If that is not enough, the USN also has ASW aircrafts that can be deployed (Orion or Viking???). A new ASW aircraft is also in the works.

And one other thing is that diesels are quite slow running on their electric engines, also requires a lot of maintenance. Marami neto is russia and china i think romeo class ata. The akula 2 is also a formidable attack sub kaso talagang advance lang ang LA and improve LA class 688 subs. I guess dedecommision na rin yung mga LA class nakalimutan ko lang kung ano class. sayang yung seawolf class designed as a boomer (missile sub) kaya lang tapos na cold war so not much use for boomers right now. Pero matindi talaga yung sonar rig nya and also yung propulsion system ultra quiet.

Talagang biggest threat ng CBG is from enemy subs kaya matindi ASW screen nyan. Usually FFG with chopper support ( Seahawk with LAMPS system and dipping sonar) kung medyo malapit sa shore with viking and orion support pa tapos outer picket nya usually yung mga LA class. Kung sa surface kasi you need to go through F14's and F18's on CAP, tapos dun sa mga air defense curtain provided by aegis cruisers and DDG's, pag lumapit pa mga 5 inch guns, pag nakalusot pa sa CIWS naman ng carrier. whew

Pero takot pa rin sila sa 1 or 2 person na nababalutan ng TNT ang katawan na nakasakay sa rubber dingy tapos magpapasabog sa sarili pag malapit na sa barko

hmmm...anong brand/model ung maliliit na helicopters na laging kalaban ni AirWolf dati? i think it's the same one sa BlackHawk Down -- the really small ones who were doing strafing support? swak na swak sa budget natin un

Thanks for pointing out the slowness of those subs.

The Romeo class is obsolete!!! Heck, para lang nag target shooting ang mga Kano! AFAIK - WWII pa yung design ng Romeo. Sa Russia, for training na lang ito.

For the LA class, may mga na decommission na ilan. Pero may move to just recondition the existing subs to extend its life. Virginia class ang latest, parang pinaghalong LA & Seawolf class although medyo mabagal ang deployment nito (due to budget reasons) - kaya extended ang LA class.

Btw, Seawolf class ay hindi boomer (SSN lang siya). SSBN (b for ballistic) yung boomers... maraming class yan...
