Good day tsikoteers.........after waiting for a long time magka-budget, nakabili din ng AVR and speakers
3. after connecting all speakers.......walang sound na lumalabas, sa setting ba to ng AVR o tama yung sinasabi nung mamang tindero na kailangan ko ng optical digital audio cable from the source to the AVR?
eto po ang aking set-up but not yet operational
Sony Bravia LCD HDTV “40
Sony CD/DVD Player
Harman/Kardon AVR 146
Polkaudio RM6750
Cables:
Monster HDMI Advanced High Speed 2m
MonsterBass 300 Subwoofer Interconnect 1.83m
Monster Standard THX Speaker Cables
Monster THX Digital Fiber Optic (?).........or anything else I need?
thanks in advance!!

Ano bang gamit mong audio out from your DVD player to your AVR? Baka wala ka ngang nai-connect na audio Either optical or coaxial digital out yan.

kung HDMI cable ang gamit ko (from which I understand is an audio/video connector, pakitama na lang ako kung mali), kailangan ko pa ba nung optical audio cable? pero bakit nga walang sounds na lumalabas sa speaker? grrr!!!

You wasted a lot of money on hype.
Anyway, either leads is fine to use. The mark was just there so you'd be able to distinguish which is which. Normally, I use the marked one for the negative.
Malakas kasi power draw nito esp at high bassy volumes. It's much safer na naka-separate sya ng power block.
to test, connect an antenna to the FM screw. Set function to tuner. You should be able to hear something. Meron din yang test speaker function.
How did you connect the Sony dvd player to the AVR?
Did you set the AVR to DVD function?
Have you checked if it's on Mute?
Optical cables are best but no need to buy Monster. It's just a glass cable. I used all sorts of optical and analog cables and i have not heard a difference with monsters except for the monstrous price. hehe.
Remember that Optical is a digital data, it's a binary sequence of 0's and 1's. So as long as it gets transferred and delivers sounds with no jitter, it's fine.

Sometimes meron din settings sa mga players kung sa HDMI ilalabas ang sound or sa digital out.
