yung old compaq 486 DX4-100 na galing japan that my dad bought 2nd-hand, yes, napatid ako sa power cord niya and down came crashing. basag yung LCD frame and hinges (pati yung metal) but surprisingly, buhay yung LCD and no scratches. it's still working though, pero attached na to a desktop monitor when there are times i wanna play old games like mechwarrior 1, scorched earth, and so on.
yung acer 5551 ko ngayon...heaven forbid that i drop it. i can't afford having a downtime lalo na it primary use nun is for school.

attach the VGA connector to the VGA port of your laptop. there are 2 ways of outputting it to the external monitor:
1. plug the VGA cord before you power on the system. in some laptops, it autodetects that an ext monitor is connected and routes display to it.
2. once connected, press [Fn] and [F8] (or [F5] for some systems) at the same time to toggle between display modes. iirc, it goes like this: laptop LCD -> ext monitor -> laptop LCD and ext monitor.

Not yet. I am careful when carrying it from one meeting to another.
Also, when transporting,- I make sure that I carry it in its case. My current laptop(Thinkpad) has survived more than a hundred thousand miles of travel....
