No, the Core2 Duo Extreme (X6800) is NOT quad core. Kentsfield (Core2 Extreme) is the Quadcore (QX6700 and QX6600).
Personally, i don't care about PC's as much as i do when i was still a teenager. Now that i'm in my mid-20s, i care about SUVs, Bimmers, Home Theaters, Businesses, Investments and Houses (as any person at my age would, probably).
But i'm still building a Core2 Duo 4MB because my current PC (HP Compaq P4 3.0C HTT, 1GB, 480GB, DVDRW, 98Pro) is due for hand-me-down. I'm gonna give it to my siblings.
I would benefit from the speed because i do a lot of stuff at the same time.
my prospective rig would be like this (unless i itch to go for higher spec):
Intel Core2 Duo E6600 (2.4GHz, 4MB) - currently the cheapest Conroe 4MB
2GB DDR2-800
Intel 975XBX
2x 320GB SATA-3G
1x 200GB SATA-3G (for Linux)
Pioneer DVDRAM RW
WiFi-N Adapter
Creative X-Fi Pt
550W HEC PSU (same as i use now)
24" DELL UltraSharp Widescreen LCD (i currently use a 21" FD Trinitron)
APC UPS
as for the sound system, i might get another Logitech z5500 THX or build a Harman Kardon Home Theater for keeps. hehe
In short, get the core2 duo. the difference in price is really minimal anyway.

Ahhh so Intel will just use Core 2 Extreme as the brand.... Pwede na rin.... But their New CEO who is a marketing guy by profession really likes using long names to describe Intel's new products...
Take note that Core 2 for laptops & desktops still are not the same due to the activation of feature sets as well as FSB speed...
Anyway just use the attached table para di na tayo mag away away sa processor specs....
that may be, but we all got plastic, young and old. we asked the lto guy, "papel ba po, o...
