Im not rich by any means, but I honestly dont find the cost of software being not "justifiable". It is expensive, yes. But read this thread palang on how many are having issues with the cost of the software but can afford to buy more expensive, non-income generating items.

If you're from the IT field, don't forget why you get a heftier paycheck than other industries even if you have less work experience.

If you have a computer shop, each one of your pc that's operating will generate income for you, I find it strange that people will be willing to spend 10K on a video card and not for an OS or application that they'll use often.

I'm not being "banal" or anything, I use P* software just like most of us, but to say that the price is too high for a device that's not a "necessity" for the basic citizen doesn't make sense.

I find the fact that people thinks software don't deserve the price simply because people equate buying a software to the actual CD/DVD that they're holding. Not accounting for the cost of developing and testing the stuff inside the disc.

Parang yung issue ng pirated videos dati... Lower the cost of originals, kalokohan. Alam ba ng tao apart from the actual celebrity that's on the movie/cd there are people who gets paid in doing "lesser" duties like promoting, printing, marketing, editing, encoding, designing, writing, composing, etc?

Who'll pay their food on their table?

Yan ang problema dito in my opinion, laging galit sa "kumikita" but not thinking about the only reason why you even know how to use a computer is because companies invested their money on something to benefit users.

Why not protest Ferarri for selling their cars at such high prices??? Why not protest Toyota/Honda for selling their entry level cars above 100K? Why not complain to Jolibee why their hamburgers cost 30 bucks while Scott burger costs 10?

Just like the BIR crackdown etc. Kung makakalusot lulusot.

I'm not bashing anyone in particular, but more on the reasoning.

Yes mahal ang software, but just like anything else, if you can't afford it, either don't buy it or save up for it. If you choose to not do the right thing and go pirated, then don't make the company the reason of why you went that route.

"Bring down the prices for Filipinos" Kahit anong nationality pa yan, walang laban ang presyo sa libre.

As long as it's an untangible item and easily replicated, it'll never be able to compete with bootleg in smaller markets.

Wala ring sinabi sa EULA na the Windows you purchased from the Philippines cannot be validated if installed to a PC in the U.S. The product activation is based on hardware hash signature, not country of origin.

Again, this is just a publicity stunt. Ask yourself this simple question: If an NBI Agent without a search warrant comes knocking on your front door and you refuse to open the door, will they kick the door and force their way in and search your house for computers? If your computers are inside your private bedroom and your wife is sleeping naked inside, will they force their way inside the bedroom just to boot-up the computer to check for serial numbers? Will they wait all day in your sala until your wife wakes up so they can enter the room? What if you refuse to get the computers out of your bedroom? Will they punch you black and blue just to verify that your Windows is licensed?

How can agents identify in the search warrant what house to raid for illegal copies of Windows XP? Is it possible to randomly choose any house to raid without knowing whether that house actually has computers?

This threat is an urban legend.

    Heres why:
Under the current Microsoft Licensing terms (OEM, Full Packaged Product and Volume License), there is no right to allow a 3rd party other than the customer to use Microsoft software.

But if you are really close to someone who owns a PC shop, they can sell you an OEM copy without having to buy a whole new of PC. I know of a shop selling it at Php 9.3K w/o hardware vs. Php 8.7K if you buy it with a complete of hardware from other shop.

Game over, NBI tells users of illegal software

First posted 02:07am (Mla time) Sept 19, 2005

    Inquirer News Service

Editor's Note: Published on page A23 of the Sept. 19, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

    TIME'S UP.

That was the message of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to users of unauthorized computer software after the one-month grace period for them to buy legal programs expired last week.

"The users were given until Sept. 15 to get rid of their illegal software," NBI -Intellectual Property Division chief Jose Justo Yap said in a phone interview.

Yap added, "We will now be going after everyone engaged in computer piracy: from big companies to small business."

The Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team, made up of the NBI, the Optical Media Board, and the Philippine National Police, gave businesses 30 days to buy authorized computer programs before they start conducting operations against those engaged in the illegal selling and distribution of software.

Yap said the crackdown would include sellers of illegally reproduced software and businesses, especially computer rental shops that use unlicensed programs.

Violators face stiff fines and jail terms of as long as nine years.
