my mom bought a samsung series 3 last month for 25K din. ok naman yung image quality sa dvds. pero di ko pa na-try sa gamitin sa HD movies.

nagmura ata kasi meron newer models out. like sa samsung, series 7 na ata yun latest this year.

From experience, Sirain ang Samsung from appliances to computer parts so stay away from that like a plague.

Sanyo is an ok-ok kind of brand (not what I'd like to have/buy but if I'd be given one for free, I'd be thankful).

LG has excellent price:quality ratio. So I'd get that among your choices. LG also supplies LCD panels for Apple's hi-end models and Cinema HD screens.

If you are after Sanyo's PiP, test first to verify that both are TV feeds. I am quite certain it is impossible to do a TV PiP with one tuner. Dual Tuner TVs are very expensive too so I'm not so sure about the Sanyo having that at that price point.

    when buying LCDs,

    1. Make sure the viewing angle are both 178 degrees or higher. Anything lesser than that is a low quality panel. TN's have 160-170 and you won't like that esp when viewing HD material. You can test it simply by watching it at that angle. If the color didn't change, it's good.

    2. Look for HDMI v1.3. Honestly, I can't see the difference (my visual acuity is 20/20) with the 1.0 but having the latest tech is usually a good thing.

    3. Energy Saving features. You'd be using your TV for a very long time and often on long hours so savings compounded over time will save you quite a sum of money.

    4. VESA mounting. You'd want your HDTV on the wall or on an a nice rack. The supplied stand simply isn't enough esp when a kid bumps it.

    5. If you are gonna play Wii, make sure to get an acrylic panel protector first for your TV or you'll end up like those funny people in Youtube (search: Wii accident).

Can you please enlighten us? What Samsung appliances, computer parts, and others have you had?

In my experience, Samsung products had varying degrees of, well, longevity.

My 21" Samsung CRT TV is still doing fine after 14 years.

My Samsung clamshell phone lasted almost 2 years before the spring-loaded hinge destroyed its housing and lost its "spring." (note: a cellphone suffers hundredfold abuse compared to a TV which just sits in its place 24/7)

Some of our Samsung CDWriters have been functioning for going on 6 years now.

Hehehe. Who would wanna watch anything at a 178-degree angle?

178 degrees of higher = 178 to 180 degrees. Because at 181 degrees, you'll be watching the back of your TV. :hysterical:

Heck, in practice, 178 degrees would only enable you to SEE and not WATCH.

You just have to make sure to wear the harness. I myself haven't had a "letting-go-of-the-Wiimote-accidentally" issue yet.
